Clueby
It was OldFo night last night. In addition to the sbsbsbsbsbsbsbs of ps bp's we also had 3 different 90 proofs to sbsbs. There was on BP that was way different profile than all the rest. While I REALLY liked it, I didn't vote for it since it was off profile. The Bourbon County Stout Birthday Bourbon variant is DELICIOUS! And of course the KING made an appearance. There was a 150th sighting as well. I may have a slight headache this morning.

I might give the newer version a try eventually but honestly I don't feel the need because I have a bunker full of WT101 and RR Single Barrel bottles, which is superior in every way to the 90 proof version. I've had a couple of bottles of RR10 and completely agree with Kepler here. WT 101 and, of course, RR SiB are much more enjoyable to me than RR10. Comparing it to Eagle Rare (same age, proof and price point) I'll take ER any day.

One of these days I'm getting my hands on one of those Sb OF's too.

And yes Kepler since it was a bar pour I know it's the "new 10" but to be honest I didn't know anything had changed until I did the SBS. We all have a bunker of RR SiB and 101....but just saying. Your blind could be the opposite? And yes love the ER very much. But as we all know the blind doesn't lie.

I still like it but prefer the older version as it tasted like bubblegum to me.
TwoFingers
Rainy afternoon, opened a bottle of JD Triple Mash. It is going well with the Little Feat special I'm watching. I really like the nose, a bit more complex than regular JD. The taste is pretty sweet up front and it seems like maybe the malt whiskey adds a little twist before the finish. Oddly, it reminds me of some port finished bourbon I've tried but I like this better.
Anwalt
Rebel 10y. Like it. Need to try it a few more times to get the feel of it.
scratchline
Cleaning off a bunch of dusty bottles and the cork on this one was just too loose to put it back on the shelf. It tastes even better because it was sent me by a friend who I met at the Bourbon Festival years ago and stayed in contact with thanks to Straightbourbon.com. A pre-metric fifth from Peoria, Illinois. Not complex but special. Dry and easy to drink. Dusty book nose. Light on the palate but with a surprising long finish. I'm used to drinking stronger whiskey so this is almost too easy to drink. Still it has a little kick and lingers. Simple burnt sugar taste that tends burnt. Candy. The kind of whiskey I can imagine Larry Tate pouring for a little old lady client who drinks all the time and she'd love it. As do I. Tastes like old whiskey in the best way. Thanks, Joe! Harry in WashDC
I've seen NO SiB picks in Wash DC since Jim Rutledge left 4R. Hence, I am "forced" to "settle" for 4R SmB Select releases. I sure wish my OTHER "first choice is unavailable, so pick from these also-rans" were as good as 4R Select. I covet OESQ, but ANY SmBSelect circa $60 will tied me over (tide me over??) until I see a real SiB oesq. 1 hour ago, flahute said: RR10 profile changed because it's some of the first distillate off the new still. IIRC, you also set me straight re: MM some months ago.

Like South Park's Towelee, I have no idea what's going on. I THOUGHT I'd responded to a flahute post but it looks like I answered myself. QUELL FROMAGE! Shades of Samuel Pepys. And so, to bed.

The local TW gets one in from time to time but they are terrible pickers AND they mark it up to $100. RRSiB has been out for almost a year now. (Shelf product). The local TW currently has a pick but they are selling it for $95. Hell no to that. WTRB ha ALSO been scarce. When it came in a couple months ago I actually had to hustle a bit to round up a case so I'd have it on hand for a while. A friend who writes for MALT was told RRSiB was now on allocation. He contacted Bo Garrett from WT to verify and was told that while no, it's not allocated in the traditional sense every state does get an allocation from every production run and if it sells out it can't be replaced until the next production run. He said that the wild success of the RR13 led a lot of people to seek out the RRSiB as well. So here we are - the taters have come for RRSiB now.

RRSIB, WTRB, and WTRB Rye can all be found in Indy will a little effort but the price has increased over the last year. FRSiBs can also be found if you want to stand in line and way over pay. I haven't seen WTKS in a while but I don't get around like I used to. I have never seen a RR13 on the shelf or in a lottery. The scenario concerning RRSiB sounds right since it seems to come and go while it you used to be available to readily find it.
