The bourbon boom happened quickly  I am sure if we had been paying attention we would have noticed the signs.  But, it happened almost overnight.

The straight wheat whiskey picked by Carl's Tavern at 6 years and 116 proof is decent. There's a nice sweet ending, but a slight funk on the palate. Anxious to see how and if this one changes over time. $79. Ouch.

 

The standard wheated bourbon at 96p (I think). It's not bad. Less sweet, a little more funk. $49.

 

Didn't want to compare them  to MM101 or WSR until they were open for a bit.

Sorry, no intel.  We visited a tasting room not the distillery. The tasting room did not have any Joseph Mangus or Murray Hill products.  However, when I tasted the Fox and Oden Bourbon, my mind immediately when to @Whiskey Bender.  Nancy, were you involved in this blending project?

Hit the freezer bottle of FRYL as I grilled 2 beautiful prime dry-aged sirloin strip steaks.  Almost done with the bottle just as summer is almost done.  Perfect timing. perchance???   

 

BTW, opened a 2007 Shafer Hillside Select to have with the steaks, stir-fried mushrooms and spinach, and baked russet potatoes - didn't think the Boone's Farm would stand up to the meal

Don't know, but my ribs were pretty sore when I woke up this morning - SWMBO was nowhere to be found for a loong time.

I remember in 2013 being able to find all three Wellers on the shelf at Total Wine. Then one day they were out of stock and "poof" that was it. Never to be seen again. That was about the time my now local was opening their doors for the first time. Because they weren't well known I was able to find all three there for a while.  Then the 12 disappeared but oddly the 107 could be found for a year or two which allowed me to stock up. That's also been dry now for a very long time. He does still get WSR from time to time.

I really like the WR Double Oaked.  Great in cocktails particularly, for me.  It seems to push the bourbon forward in them.  Picked up a local PS recently, and am enjoying it neat, as well.

No need to restock, I have a case back.  They are a local bottling group so, I support the home team.

it is pricey but guide enjoyable.  A “nail polish” nose when first uncorked but that fades.  
Once it opens up, you get dark chocolate, dark red fruits,  good legs/mouth-feel and a great Kentucky hug.  
if the price is in the budget, I would get one to try.

I think I’ll join you, with the 15y though. Actually this bottle (the 15y) was about 1/2 full and I had about a 1/4 bottle of the 16y left so I poured it in 15y about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Good juice.

Heaven Hill has released a number of 100 and above proofed budget bourbons over the years.  Honestly, can’t think of one better than the 7yr 101 pr Virgin bourbon.
