Happy birthday to me. Today I opened the penultimate bottle from my bunker. This is the last of my Stagg Jr.; my notes say it was iteration number three, from 10+ years back, one of my favorites, and  checks in at  132.1 proof. Price tag says I paid $49.99 for it (plus plenty in tax). When we moved three years ago afer we retired, I looked at the back of the bunker, and thought "What am I waiting for? Who's gonna enjoy those bottles more than I will?" And I've been opening them on special occasions ever since.

Eagles and Phillies are playing at the same time.    First up is a new Tumbling Dice 6 year single barrel,  and it's a real odd one.   It has s a caste of muscellage to it,  and little of the cherry I expect from the MGP 36% rye bourbon mashbill.   Maybe it is just the neck pour,  maybe it's just the vagaries of a single barrel,  but this one looks to be going solera.  Maybe I'll try blending it with a Leopold Bros. BIB.

But the follow-up,  New Riff 6-year Malted Rye, is superb.  Truly superb.   It reminds me of Old Potrero but older and better.  I went out this morning to get another bottle of this stone classic sip.

Charlie! Happy Birthday to ya’,  and also Happy Retirement. Nice to see you post. I was thinking about you recently. Manny’s just celebrated it’s 100th Anniversary, and I was looking for a few pictures to post. I posted three pics from one of our Binny’s get togethers, and one includes you. Sorry it’s not a good angle. 😜 Anyway, nice choice with the Stagg Jr. 👍 🥃

KC12.  It's starting to grow on me.  A little time with a big ice cube smooths out what, for me, seems to be a bit much oak & tannin.  Can't leave the ice in for too long or it dilutes it too much though; this ain't no 120.  Starting to grasp some of the nuance & complexity, though I'm not yet comfortable naming what I think I taste.

But I still prefer the KC9 store picks (well, the ones that tend towards the sweeter side, a relative term with KC).

I haven't tried the KC15 yet.  If the 12 strikes me as a bit oaky, I suspect that the 15 may be a bit much of that for my taste.

KC 9 is a longtime fave - have several (more than a few) bunkered at an average $25/750 but still buy it at today’s MSRP.  Nevertheless, the KC 12 Is a “grab when seen at a reasonable price” as I can always add water IF!!! I want to.  That said, I agree on the oak issue on the 15.  Unless I find a bar with a reasonably priced 15, I may never taste it.

Uh, the Wash CDRs just beat the Jacksonville Jags (worst team in the NFL some say), but a win is a win so I’m celebrating with OGD BIB.  If Wash had lost, I’d be drowning my sorrows with OGD BIB.  WIN-WIN!!

On our way home from the game now.

We pre-gamed with OF100 and Baker's.

This team is going to be the death of me!

Ending a wonderful weekend with a glass of good ole Rare Breed. What a perfect ending to a surprisingly awesome late season Beach Saturday and even more surprising Bears victory today.

Nice average!

I have 2 15's.  Haven't opened either one yet. I should probably try and then decide on "open & drink" or "trade".  I had no idea about KC before "hanging out" with you guys.  It really is a heck of a value.  I always learn something.

The banter here - you guys are a hoot.

It is always good to have a contingency plan.  Even better when Plan A = Plan B.

Maybe its because when he has overindulged, he couldn't remember what happened?  😀

I remember when my son used to grab KC9 and KC Rye for me in NW Indiana for $19.99 on his way to Chicago.  This is The Way.

Took my son's girlfriend out for her birthday.  Of course, it included the whole family so it wasn't cheap.  Home now and drinking New Riff.  I think I will have a little pour of ECBP to end the weekend while watching the Tampa Bay-Dallas game.  NFL football, its back!

Finishing the weekend with a solemn pour of Maker’s Mark while remembering the horrors of this day in 2001.  We lit our 3-wick candle again as we have for 21 years, put out our 3 flags, said a prayer, and thanked all of our brothers and sisters who have stepped forward to protect us.

God Bless America.

John J Bowman SB tonight.  Have had this one a couple of times in the last 2 weeks, and it has really hit the spot both times.  Has a fairly unique flavor compared to most bourbons I've had.  Plus I think it's basically just ER or Blantons from what I've heard...🤣

On a more somber note I agree with the posters above on remembering 9/11.

With the weather turning cooler I reached for this. It screams fall to me. Has a distinct apple note. I know it's not bourbon but I was too lazy to post in the proper section.

Started with MM101, then graduated to several (3) nice pours of WT101 while watching the Giants defeat the Titans. Sorry Vol/Titan nation.

Found a bottle early summer and had a snort.  I said the exact description, apple and a warming feeling like a brandy and will save for cooler weather.

Somewhat local distillery, purchased at a local ABC and its a local charter captain edition (Fishin Frenzy) unsure of the whole story of this peticular iteration from this distillery.

Really great to me with an oak caramel nose,  oaky black liquorice taste.  Little thin and possibly young. Probably won't buy again but will enjoy the contets for sure. 20220911_202059.thumb.jpg.34aacb2937fdc2181d28b75160b1bb2a.jpg

Got a KC. They had the fancier bottles but I went for the good old 9yr this time. Feeling nostalgic about the classics these days, it’s been a while since I had this.

Well, sorry for the double post, but one sip and I remember how much I like the base Beam profile. I really shouldn’t ignore Beam like this.
