kcgumbohead
VOB 100, the first for me since they dropped the BIB designation, it seems lighter in color, thinner in mouthfeel and a touch more rough around the edges in flavor than I remember. Either I’ve changed or nostalgia is clouding the experience, its just OK and at least inexpensive but I swear it used to be GOOD in addition to being inexpensive. Anwalt
It's late. Wanna read a bit. And not leave the hotel room. Delta's little helpers come through.
Anwalt
RRSiB. I don't know which barrel I got. But it is a mighty fine one. Just perfect nice & neat. Which is not normal for me at 110 proof. You people have turned me on to some very nice things that others have overlooked.

I thought it looked like one of those little bottles of mouthwash. You know it would be cool if hotels left little bottles of whiskey on your pillow instead of a cookie or chocolate.
mbroo5880i
I picked up a standard bottle of Yellowstone Bourbon 93 proof. I had never had it before nor anything from Limestone so I was curious. Although, I suspect this is an NDA bottle since it says bottled by. I noticed over the weekend they had it on sale for $24.99 but the shelf was cleared. I happened to take my wife to dinner in the area tonight. Chick-fil-A. Anyway, I thought I would check to see if they got any more. Sure enough, they had 3 bottles. I walked with one. Why not? Never tried it and the price was the less than I spent at Chick-fil-A. My take. Expectations were low. It is not exceptional yet not bad. Worth $25? Yeah, sure if I want something slightly lower proof than my standard bottles - OF 100, OGD BIB, WT101. The nose has a hint of vanilla and citrus. The palate is similar with a little spice. The finish is short but pleasant. Honestly, it reminded me of a two year old Tom Foolery bottle I had several years ago. This bourbon is supposed to be 4 to 7 years old. I would rate it below Woodinville 90 proof. So, at regular price, I would pick Woodinville over Yellowstone. I would really like to try one of the Yellowstone store picks at 115 proof. While unlikely to buy another bottle since I prefer the three higher proof bottles listed above, I will let this bottle open up a little before making that decision. I believe this sale is good for another few weeks. Edited September 14, 2022 by mbroo5880i

I believe this sale is good for another few weeks. I stopped into their distillery last spring with no preconceptions and having never tried any of their bottlings. They had 2 single barrel selects and their annual limited edition as well as the standard menu of core offerings. I did the flight and while the property is very attractive, if smaller than the website photos suggest, none of the flight pours did anything for me until I tasted the single barrel, barrel proof. I was under the impression that they actually distilled it and later learned that those are sourced. Heaven Hill was suggested as a candidate but I believe the bottle I have is Barton and they did a hell of a fine job selecting it, a delicious pour that I dole out sparingly just to make it last, its damn good!! Curious as to what they are up to there, too small to distill on a scale to distribute nationwide, the rick shed behind the distillery is stacked with small 1/2 size barrels not the std. 55s, they are tied in with MGP and LUXCO so while there is ample distilling capacity there, what exactly are we to expect out of wee Yellowstone? I don’t know but I will certainly stop in whenever near by and sample the days single barrels as I wouldn’t hesitate to add more if they have anything like the one I picked up last spring, I don’t care who made it, just bottle more!! But seriously I do wonder what their plan is long term as the standard bottlings, to your point, don’t make much of an impression, the label art though? ... that kicks ass.
kcgumbohead
In tonight’s glass is another pour from yesterday’s VOB 100 purchase. Its slightly better than yesterday, hinting at what was as the VOB bib notes, specifically chocolate notes to my palate, are subtlety present but I can’t shake the impression that this is a mashup of VOB and vodka. This may be the first bottle since my inaugural and only Weller SR to be gifted or drain poured, I do NOT see myself ever getting through the whole thing. The other budget option was FC 103, I’ve never had the NAS version but I quite liked the 6 yr expression, it was a flip of the coin and nostalgia got the better of me, c’est la vie.

Erk Russel Reserve
Cracked a 375ml 1997 WT 86.8 Old #8 that had given up a share to the angels. Of course the cork was shoddy and I had to push it in. There was whoosh of air. I filtered the juice through a stainless steel fine mesh tea strainer and decanted it into an un-glamorous brown glass medical alcohol bottle. The taste was incredibly soft for dusty Turkey. Everything that should have been in there was, but quite light. Maybe decanting it will allow it to open up a bit? Time will tell. I may end up kicking up the proof with some rare breed, but I want to let it open a bit. Dangerously easy to drink. I wonder what proof it is.

fishnbowljoe
Our local bourbon /cigar group has pretty much settled into a trio. We enjoyed pours of Basil Haden’s, MM and FRSB this evening at my American Legion post. Nice evening weather wise, and the quality of pours shared. Biba! mbroo5880i
Watching the LAC-KC NFL game on Amazon. While the game is interesting, not impressed by the telecast quality. Drinking Yellowstone 93. It is better than I thought it would be. Two nights, A few, ok several pours, and it is decent. Not going to pay $40 for it but I am ok with the price of admission I paid, $24.99. Kind of reminds me of when I used to go to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana and you would get $10 off if you brought an empty Pepsi can. Yes, I said Santa Claus, Indiana. You thought the white bearded dude lived at the North Pole but he actually lives along the Ohio River about an hour from Kentucky Bourbon. What do you think made his eyes twinkle, his dimples merry? His cheeks like roses and his nose like a cherry? His droll little mouth draw up like a bow and his little round belly shake like a bowl full of jelly? What made him chubby and plumb, a right jolly old elf? That's right friends...bourbon!
