On more recent trips to KY over the years, rather than come home up I-65, on occasion we’ve decided to come home by different routes. We do this on other trips too. We kiddingly call this “going off the grid”. We shut off the GPS/phones, and break out the old Rand McNally Road Guide. We did this in 2016, the last time my wife accompanied me to Bardstown. We went across I-64 and stopped at the Lincoln Boyhood home, and drove by Santa Claus Indiana. Fun times. From there it was county and state roads the rest of he way home. Hey, it netted me a Weller at a little out of the way place in Southern Illinois. Biba! Joe
markandrex
4R SiB this evening. A second pour may just be the end of this bottle. Quite exceptional.

Hey, it netted me a Weller at a little out of the way place in Southern Illinois. Biba! Joe I also remember when it was called Santa Claus Land but my parents never took us there. We started going in the early 1990s when our oldest son was little and then later when the kids were older. Every year we did a Cedar Point trip and then later in the summer Holiday World. It has one of the best water parks in the country. We haven't been in years. I remember they gave you a discount if you brought an empty Pepsi can. Free soda and sun screen. My kids enjoyed it more than some of the other high profile amusement parks including Disney World, Disney Land, Knotts Berry, etc. The Post Office postmarks kid's letters to Santa every holiday season. Not to spoil it for some in this forum but Santa isn't a real - or at least a single - person. He is all that is good. There is a little bit of Santa in all of us. Enough thread drift. There was a liquor store in Santa Claus. How ironic? Anyway, a little Yellowstone 93 soon to be followed by New Riff. How are you enjoying it Flavor notes? not to bad, this is a bottle that if you have it pour the neck then let it sit for 3 + weeks and it gets better. Has a strong roasted peanut flavor if you like that.

flahute
I've been drinking a lot of ER10 and BT this past week. My in-laws were in town so I had some bottles pulled out to share with my father-in-law. He's been a mentor to me in many ways including investing, wine, and jazz but he was never much of a bourbon drinker so I've been his mentor in bourbon. I knew he liked ER10 which is hard to get in Cincinnati so I had a store pick from my local. I asked him what else I could bring up that is hard for him to find and he said BT. I have to say that both have been absolutely hitting the spot so I've been leading off with them every night since then.
BigRich
I’ve tried most of the Smoke Wagon stable and while I’ve historically enjoyed MGP bourbon, they just do it for me. Barring a miracle, this will be the last bottle of Smoke Wagon I buy and thankfully its almost gone. The Davidoff is making it much better on a perfect late summer cigar afternoon in Georgia.

PaulO
I went across town yesterday to the place I usually find OGD 114, only an empty shelf, none in back either. I picked up VOB 100 instead, not to waste a trip. The funny thing about this bottle - the fill level. It was filled all the way up to under the cap. You couldn't even see any air bubble. Taking the cap off, it was up to the threads - the fullest bottle I ever saw. That's a peculiar observation I've had about VOB. I have seen bottles on the shelf together and the levels are all slightly different, like the pipes on a big pipe organ. Anyway, still a nice pour, and I got a little extra.
mbroo5880i
Anniversary weekend. Our 35th wedding anniversary is Monday but we started the celebration today. Went to one of the top restaurants in the Indy area with my wife, best man, his wife, maid of honor, her husband and my youngest son. We even allowed a local news celebrity to join us but we made her sit at the table next to ours. I paid for the wine for the night but my best man said all bourbon pours were on him. I am never one to take advantage of a friend so I was looking at KC9 until I saw they had HMcK10 for only $1 per pour. That was my pour. It was an excellent choice, or two, or three. My friend opted for KC9. He wanted a little more oak. The pours of HMcK10 were generous from the start but appeared to be more generous with each pour as it was obvious we were going to pop some $$$ tonight. Sometimes atmosphere dictates perception but the pours of HMcK10 were stellar. I would love to have a bottle for home, even if just to remember this evening. Bourbon + Friends + Atmosphere = Awesome. Home now and enjoying a couple of decent pours of New Riff. The HMcK10 was stellar but the New Riff is really hitting it as well. Tomorrow we hit it with my oldest son and his girlfriend. Then I am off work on Monday, my actual anniversary. I see a lot more nice meals, family and friends, and bourbon over the next few days.
