Thomm
Second pour of the local casker, Handen single barrel from yesterday's visit to Cedarburg. This is a brown sugar bomb with marshmallow edges. At 124 proof, it's definitely making it's presence known, but without the ethanol burn up front. There's dark chocolate here, too. I will have to return to this distillery when things aren't so busy and find out if this is sourced or their own distillate, as, from my understanding, they have only been open since 2019 (could very well be their own, since it is labeled "straight bourbon"). No matter, it fits my palate quite nicely. It also adds enjoyment to the football game I'm currently watching. If you're from the Chicagoland area, I could say I feel for ya, but I'm old enough to remember 1985. Still have Ditka nightmares.

The food and pricing are comparable to both St. Elmo's and Harry & Izzy's. It is located along the Monon Trail which has a great atmosphere with a lot of restaurants and bars. Once parked, you can pretty much walk to everything. For that reason, we prefer that area to downtown Indianapolis unless we are going downtown for another event (e.g., symphony, play, sporting event). Peyton is a part owner of a few Huse restaurants (owner of St. Elmo's) including Harry & Izzy's and another restaurant/bar in Fishers. We also like Sullivan's on the northside, which was another favorite hangout for Peyton back in the day. Another Indy downtown staple is Shapiro's deli. Back in the day, the Colts coaching staff would often be there for lunch on Friday's during the season. @GeeTen I graduated from IUPUI. In it's day, the Natatorium was one of the premier swimming venues in the U.S. One of my bosses' wife is a bartender at St. Elmo's. I need to chat him up a little more to find out what high end bottles they have and what a brother has to do for a bourbon hookup. Tonight, I am finishing up the bottle of Yellowstone 93 while licking my fantasy football wounds. My team's failure today is directly traceable to the Colts face plant. I am a homer so my team is loaded with the Blue and White. The bourbon is good. Better than I expected. I would probably grab another for $24.99 but not a penny more. So, if it were $25, then no go. I'm gonna be curious to see how you react to overall inflation as opposed to bourbon madness induces priced increases.

I bought a BevMo OF SiB pick a couple of years ago and was underwhelmed. I've also always been skeptical of chain store picks - I've never bought a TW pick mostly because of the huge price premium over the regular releases. But a few years ago (maybe five), BevMo had several private barrels of KC SiB 120 proof that were absolutely stellar - barrel numbers in the low 7,000s with the old school metal tags - among my top ten all time bourbons. 14yo range as confirmed by inquiry to Beam. And, they were charging the same price for the store picks as for the regular release, $49.99 IIRC.

It’s mostly wheaters and middle proof offerings for me. Every so often I get the urge for something with a little more “oomph”. I have a couple of things that will usually scratch that itch. Recently it’s been WT 101. Odd observation here. Not that I know what a 101 proof bourbon is supposed to drink like, but when I have MM 101, it seems to me it drinks a little milder than 101 proof. On the flip side of that coin, WT 101 seems to drink a little hotter than 101 proof. Blender that I am, I may have to do a vatting of the two and see what happens. Hmmmmmm. Joe’s Four Grain 101. I have already adjusted my reaction to inflation. I happened to see two bottles for $24,99 on the shelf today. They stayed there. However, if still there on my next visit, one might go home with me. They are on sale through October 1. This stuff is every where so I expect a restock. I can say for certain that I wouldn't pay $42.99 which is the price that I saw at another store today. I can get a 1.75L of OF100 or WT101 for that price.

markandrex
Sipping on some WFP again tonight. My neighbor came by to pick up the W12 from today’s purchase (he’s never had one) . He has never had the WFP so I had to be neighborly. About to head out for Indian food, my youngest son drove in for a few days. His call.
