Starting with an Old Charter Proprietor’s Reserve “Slope Shoulder”, tonight.  The chewy leather and Goetze’s Caramel Cream notes are wonderful.

Jack Rose was at the charity event I attended last Saturday and they were pouring a variety of dusties including this one. It was my first pour from them because I know how great it is.

Jack Rose had a Louisville OCPR that I drank a fair bit of. This was pre-pandemic so that bottle was sold off if it wasn’t completely consumed, but either way, great stuff.

ECBP C921.  If there's one thing that's gotten me trying something other than the wheats, it's the ECBP's. Starting with the awesome one at the HH "Bottle Your Own" (admittedly that's some loaded dice right there) to the A122 and now this one...so much flavor, sweet & spicy, nice oak minus the bitter finish.

I like.

FRSB, where have you been all my life?!  I opened this bottle tonight as my introduction to Four Roses bourbon, and I have to tell you it fits my palate very nicely.  As I understand it, the single barrels are all OBSV.  Is that correct?  If so, and this means the mashbill is only 60 percent corn, where is all this lovely dark, rich, sweetness coming from?

From my reading I have gathered that the good folks at FR describe the OESO recipe as being vanilla and dark fruit forward. Now my question for all of you who are in the know: which FR bottles feature this recipe?  I think I may want to try that next .

I assume you are enjoying FRSiB. My first bottle was an educational experience and I became a member of the FR Cult as a result. The term "cult" carries a negative connotation unless it involves FR. Then, it is a badge of enlightenment.

I like.

Started the night thinking I was going to be a good boy.  First, a solid pour of ER. Followed by a small pour if ECBP 522, then a small pour if 2013 WLW, then another small pour of 2013 WLW, then another small pour of 2013 WLW, then my final pour of the night another small pour of ECBP 522.

To rephrase. Boy, these were all good.  😀

Haha I knew you meant this for Nancy (aka WhiskeyBlender) but I just had to chuckle at that.

Maybe when anyone tags "Whiskey Bender" the notification should automatically go out to all active SB members, Lol 🤪 🤔

Oh I remember the Proprietor's Reserve!  Had a bottle maybe 15 years ago and remember it fondly.

OGD114 is tasting absolutely stellar right now.

So was a fresh batch of Grandpa Weller's 4 Grain (3xWSR:2xOGD114) :last night, sitting on the deck and watching the sun go down!   GW4G is like "drinking a cool summer breeze."   🥰

Did they somehow seem to get progressively better?  😎

I'll need try some of the older ECBP's.

Haha,  Pours of exceptional whiskey always get progressively better when you drink them in succession.  I really only had three different bourbons.  ER, 2013 WLW, and 0522 ECBP

The ECBP certainly held its own with the WLW on this particular evening.  I would say it also held its own with the majority of ECBP I have had in the past.  I believe I have had most of the first 10 or so releases.  One or two might have been better but I know longer have those tasting notes since they were lost on a computer that crashed.  I have drank a lot of whiskey since then.  I stopped buying ECBP shortly after the bottle change due to availability.  More and more retailers no longer place it on the shelf or even pull one from behind the counter when asked.  They tend to hold  them for lotteries and other special events.

That's saying something.

I get it, at least in the abstract.  This being a newer thing for me, I'm still all bright-eyed & bushy-tailed.  And willing to spend undue amounts of time on (presently) fun but non-productive things, like hunting down bottles.

As my palate develops (having a ball with trying this, that, and the other, then repeating) and other bright, shiny objects appear, I could see myself settling for some excellent bottles (The various MM, EW, 4R, WT, etc. that you all pretty consistently like) that are easily acquired and spending less time looking for That One (well OK, Three Dozen Ones).

I know you guys have talked about how some of the more recent ECBP ain't what is used to be, in addition to having to work to get some.  I'm still willing to work at it some because I really, really like it.  And am still all bright eyed, etc.

As always, appreciate your feedback.

Opening bottles that made their way to PR.  A lot of "first time tries" coming with all these sealed bottles beckoning.  Today's cherry-popping:  Smokewagon UFUC.

Not as hot as I thought it might be.  Licorice.  Oakey, but not bitter on the finish.  Definite like.  Not love, at least not yet.  Gonna be curious to try it next to OF 1920 and a few other higher non-wheaters.  Would rather pay $80 for the ECBP than $65 for this one.  But one can actually find this one sans excessive scouting.

All over the map tonight.  Opened Weller FP.  Had a bit.  And now happy, on to basic EC SmB.

Go Bucks!
