I didn’t need another OBSV but it’s 10y 3mo and I’ve been passing on these the last couple of years. Figured I would give it a whirl.

I'd like to see more of what's just outside the frame to the left too!

Had to make a road trip this weekend so checked out the local offerings.

$39.99 +t.

The clerk was responsible for the pick so of course he said it was amazing. If he's right it's about an 8 hour trip back for another one.

Pin Hook Vertical Series 7 year - 20.5% rye and 57.5 ABV and it shows.  Good spice on the tip of the tongue but no burn going down.  I’m not good at identifying fruits, flavor is light, just a nice easy pour.  Now comparing to Four Roses Small Batch Select which is smoother, creamy, yet still with the 4R flavor profile.  I’ll have to gather a few friends to gather more tasting notes.  Both purchased this past week in Chester, MD

It was llama approved. It really is good and I'm kicking myself for not gearing at least one more at that price.

I've done the same with more than one KC pick.  They pass...so quickly.

I have several of the KC store picks.  Always very good,  but I like KC in all yr classes.  Have yet to not say.

Some would argue that the GBS goat carries more sway.  But, llama approval is pretty solid.

Did a little too much shopping last month.  Store picks of ECBP, New Riff, Clyde Mays, and Sierra (I tasted this one and can't wait to crack it.  It's supposed to be tie first/only barrel pick from this distillery).  Managed to get doubles of EC and Larceny B522.  And a couple others for good measure.

My haul from Safeway today.  My son gave me a heads up that they had CEHT SmB and I had to try the KC store pick and the JD BiB.  Plus three bottles of wine for the pantry so I could get the 10% off six bottle mix and match discount.  EHT rang up at $39.59, which is below msrp, I think...

I tried to send you a private message but the site wouldn’t allow it.

In the spirit of the thread I picked up this bottle. It’s been sitting on the shelves so I figured it was time. Early indications is I’m going to love this bottle.

I come from an aviation family. When my Mom

comes to visit she drops all kinds of this stuff.

I wonder what airlines would charge for a pack of cards these days?

Thanks for the attempt at a PM, I think I'm still too new to send/receive them.  I've begun thinning my airplane collection for bourbon.  I'm sure it appears to any average observer I should be breathalyzed more frequently ;)

I flew Eastern, Piedmont, and TWA a lot back in the day.  I miss those days!

I still remember an Eastern flight from Cincy to Indy where I was the only person on the flight other than an Eastern employee who was flying back.  We all sat in the back. 😀

Picked up a bottle of Calumet 15. $125. don't know if that is any good $.

Cheapest I've seen it in my neck of the woods is $137.  That is from a reputable, non-tatery liquor store.

In 1974, I flew home from Norfolk/Virginia Beach for Xmas leave. I flew on Piedmont to Cincinnati, then on to Indy on Delta. On the leg from Norfolk to Cincinnati, we made stops at Newport News and Richmond VA, and Lewisburg and Beckley West Virginia. (The stop at Lewisburg was cancelled because of a snow storm. Long story.) That trip made me understand why Piedmont was affectionately referred to as “Treetop Airlines”. 🤔

I flew Piedmont from Fayetteville, NC to Johnson City, TN and some other small airport, then to Cincinnati.  Eastern from Cincy to Indy.  I recall several times flying Piedmont where we had a short layover at some small airport where we took a ladder off the plane to the tarmac to get into the airport terminal.

I traveled to Virginia and back weekend for my nephew's engagement party.   The way down passes through my Bourbon Mecca,  Elkton, MD,  so here's what my sojourn yielded.   That's a Bardstown Discovery 8,  the 2nd of this series on my shelf.   The Discovery 6 (which I'm sipping while listening to Art Farmer)  is IMO a masterpiece of blending that tastes huge and old school.   The Old Elk 6 -year straight wheat replaces a recent decedent that was probably my favorite beach pour from last year.

OF Rye can't be found in Pennsy,  so this made for an ideal hotel pour that takes to a paper cup as well as a VOB 100 does.  Finally th KO Distillers Reserve s a hunch;  a VA craft distillery I've never seen before but looks interesting with this BIB wheated.

Only disappointment was my inability to find a Pikesville.

My Dad went to work for Piedmont after Braniff folded in 1982. It was a great experience for us. He was based in Charlotte and Wilmington, NC.  I flew with him often and if nobody claimed the jump seat that meant I got to ride up front. He was big on the west coast trips because that meant a 30 hour layover but you were flying the red eye back home. This was all pre 9/11 and it was a bit of the Wild West. The industry has changed. Anyway, I get a kick out of seeing the AA Piedmont plane. Brings back memories.
