A beautiful day here.  Temps are in the 70s (should be 90+).  I decided to pull out a KC9 SP.

Deceptive Bourbon Day!!!

I thought I was grabbing a BBC Origin wheated. I didn't know that I had a pour left and was excited about it. After tasting, I thought WOW; this is much better than I remembered. WTH! Re-read the bottle; 111 proof Discovery 6. OK it makes sense now. Damn! Me likes!!!

It never occurred to me to eat fresh mango (which is everywhere for the literal taking) with bourbon.

It works.

It shall occur to me again.

Palates are odd things.

Those Discs are darned good. Still making up my mind as to which I like most. They make that a tough decision.

Congrats on living the brief lie that led to the truth.

Cooper’s Craft 100 has basically become my go-to.

How does this one compare to the Old Forester 100? Heard good things about it from family but trying hard not to buy bottles and haven’t run across it at a bar.

While the Old Foresters are good budget bourbons, I prefer the 86 proof version to the 100 for its better drinkability.  I find the 100 to be rather prickly and arid.  But the 100 proof Cooper’s has none of that prickliness.  It’s much rounder and viscous over my palate.  It seems older and has more richness, and the finish is markedly longer and more pleasant.  Across  the board, it is superior to OF100…except price…😁. However, at low $30s, I have no dissonance in pulling the trigger on it.

Going to let this one sit for 1/2 hour then try. It seems to improve some of the higher-proof selections. Very interested in the result. It has a lot of flavor and a great mouthfeel, not nearly as hot as the younger versions of Peerless.

Pour 1 was VWFR. This was very meh. I don’t see how BT put this in a bottle as a LE.

Pour 2 was WT SB rye. Absolutely fantastic. VWFR wishes it was this.

Pour 3 was RR 13 year. Also fantastic. WT is my jam.

KC 12 tonight.  Gonna scoot thru Indiana again in about a week, and I have to determine whether or not to pick up a few more of these. Third sip in, and the answer is a definite yes.

Yep. On the way to South Carolina where the folks-in-law live. I called and confirmed KC 12 availability and price at Superior Discount Beverage in Greenwood.

Gonna stay in Lawrenceburg on the way down, so a few Distillery gift shops will be visited.  My tentative plans are to get some KC 12 in Greenwood, stop at OF gift shop in Louisville, check out temporary WT gift shop, and possibly see what's shakin' at Four Roses.  Next morning I may stand in the tater line up the road at Buffalo Trace if it doesn't take too long.

Now if you have any suggestions where a weary traveler might find a good bourbon deal near the greater Indianapolis area, I would be forever grateful.

P.S.  Why is EW single barrel now available in Indiana?  I had heard that was a Kentucky only thing. Maybe they changed their minds?

I wholeheartedly agree with the OF 86 outshining the OF 100. I found a store last year that got a case of OF 86 375’s. They sold them for $7.99. Needless to say, I bought a few. It was my freezer bourbon last year. On the flip side of this for me is EW. I love the EW BIB, but I’ve never cared for the EW 86 at all. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not sure if you programmed me or vice-versa but OF86 was my freezer pour last year also; though I bought the handles & refilled the Saffell bottle.

This year good ol' MM hangs out in the freezer. (in the Saffell of course)
