Kyjd75
Last week my wife and I were having lunch in downtown Elizabethtown at one of the new restaurants that has opened, J. R. Neighbors (sort of a gourmet burger place--very nice). I happened to notice a fellow sitting at the table next to ours wearing a Whiskey House polo shirt. Intrigued, I introduced myself and asked if he was associated with WH Ky. He was. It was David Mandell, CEO of Whiskey House Kentucky. He was with two ladies who also worked for WH Ky. Very nice fellow. I didn't want to interrupt his business too long, but I was able to have a couple of questions answered. First, there will not be a restaurant at WH Ky a la BBC. Apparently they intended to solely concentrate (at least initially) on contract distilling. Second, and for that same reason, the distillery will not be open to the public for visits. No tours, no gift shops, etc. However, he did say that they would likely open a "tasting room" somewhere downtown in Elizabethtown to highlight the products they were making for their clients. So hopefully that will turn out to be something worth visiting in the future. I drove by the distillery a week ago, and all I can say is that the videos previously posted do not do the facility justice. It is going to be HUGE. Obviously a large production capacity. Appears they have prepared sites for 7 or 8 rick houses on site as well. Disappointed with the news of no public access, but optimistic that the "tasting room" will make up for that to some degree. I was very impressed with how friendly and talkative all three WH Ky representatives were. They seemed genuinely excited to be in Elizabethtown.

I see nothing wrong with contract distilling as long as the NDP is transparent.
PaulO
It sounds like they plan to contract distill to an "infinite" different mash and yeast specifications, barrel char options too. So the customer picks up full barrels to age themselves? That would add even more variables.
Kyjd75
They are building 16 rickhouses on site to age the bourbon they produce. I don't think they intend to release virgin barrels to their customers. Here is an article from our local paper which has more details: https://www.thenewsenterprise.com/news/local/still-under-construction-whiskey-house-celebrates-e-town-home/article_ba4a7dc1-bac8-5e36-8967-cf062d29c072.html
