I had a few Paulaner Oktoberfest while working in the yard and starting to prep the pool for shutdown tomorrow.  I love this hefeveiss it takes me back to Fall days in Helen Ga.

We “found” Helen about 35 years ago while rafting the Chattanooga in NE Ga.  We were driving around Lake Lanier and rolled into town and heard oompah bands playing.  We spend the day eating German food and drinking Paulaner.  I believe we also discovered Spatburgender that day.

We loved it so much we have gone back every 5 years or so.  We took both of our sons there for their 21 birthdays for legal drinking with Mon and Dad.  My oldest son is heading there this weekend with his fiancé and friends for his 30th birthday.  I guess we have started a family tradition.

Beautiful little village, great food, nice hiking and a lot of fun.

Nice!  For years, we’d go to Helen infrequently.  But, we went one October with Littlesmokinjoe when she was very young.  She loved it, so we went every year well into her teens.  Rented a cabin just outside Helen, and spent 3, or so, days doing Helen things, Burt’s Pumpkin Farm, panning for gold in Dahlonega, and shopping.  Heck, just visiting Betty’s Country Store in Helen is worth making the whole trip!  So many fond memories!!

Starting this weekend with a Haufbrau Oktoberfestbier.  I usually stay with ‘Merican Oktoberfest beers through September, and wait until October to go With the German brews, but this one called to me today.

Back in ‘Merica with a Yuengling Oktoberfest.  Decent, but not a lot going on.   But, since it’s a balmy 90 degrees here today, it’s simple drinkability is working for me.

Dogfight Head 90 minutes IPA.

The perfect "sitting on the back porch in the Fall" kind of beer....

Just finished up some chores which included removing a garden hose from an outside spigot.  Two wrenches and some WD40 trick didn’t work, so had to go to plan B which was saw the female coupling down to the point that I could lift/turn/ break it free from the spigot without damaging the spigot threads or snapping off the spigot from the pipe.  Was actually pretty high stress.  😬
BTW, I have learned that these hose couplings can corrode to the point that they basically weld themselves to the spigot,  so it’s a good idea, the pros say, to unloosen them every so often to make sure they stay free.  I’m considering this a plumbing job, so I made sure that the top of my butt crack was clearly visible to whomever happened to pass by.  Shows I’m a real pro..🤣🤣

Now that I feel I truly deserve a beer, it’s time for my most near to me local brewery’s Hasenpfeffer Oktoberfest beer.  These have run hot and cold to me over the years, but this one is very good.

Pulling in to LAX after a work, golf, eating, and beer drinking trip to Portland, OR.

I didn’t take too many photos but snapped this photo last night waiting for my Uber.

Well done on the diy plumbing fix.  Sounds like you really deserved a nice cold one.
I wish we got the varieties of Oktoberfest bier that y’all do.

Cheers

Back to Germany after work with a very nice Tucher Festbier.  I find the German Oktoberfest beers to be a perfect balance between being quaffable and having body and substance, as this one is.  However, I enjoy the American take on Oktoberfests and the caramel-y notes( as seen in Sam Adams Octoberfest), maybe more.  Both, while different, are nevertheless enjoyable on their own.

Either way, this is such a great season for beer!

I have a soft spot in my heart for Brooklyn Brewery since Littlesmokinjoe lived in Brooklyn when in college.  That said, this Oktoberfest is fantastic in and of itself.  Very close to my fave Sam Adams Octoberfest.  Making a good run at being runner up this year!

Final Festbier of the season. This one from There Does Not Exist based in San Luis Obispo. Fine lager to wash away the dust from the trail. Contemplating Friday night eats.

I had an adult treat bar set up with liquors, wine, hard seltzers and beer on Halloween.  Always a big hit while the kids Trick or Treat out front.  One of the beers was Heineken.  I should actually do something to earn one today, but I think I’m going to basically do nothing instead, and sit out here and drink a beer…😌
