What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

I bought a couple different years when it sat on a shelf for $39.99.  It was ok, but had sort of a dry wood finish, not really in my wheelhouse.  The contemporary "Signature" was really to my liking.  Then things got crazy with BB price and availability.  So glad I don't care at this point. 

 

See, I like birthday bourbon.  I understand that the extra oak may not be for everyone, but I wish OF would offer more aged products of their standard recipe that are not extremely limited, for those that want it (like me).  E.g., if their premium SiBBP product were aged 8 years at $90, I think that would be a nice bridge between the cheaper OF100/1897 BiB and the super limited 12 yr OFBB.

Out and about today. I stopped by one place to talk to the manager about something. Long story short, while not really looking for bourbon, I was offered some. I politely declined Weller SR and EH Taylor SmB.

Depending the price, I might have had difficulty passing the CEHT.  It is a lottery item in my area.  Actually, both are lottery items in my area.

Last time I purchased these there, Weller SR:$27.99, ER:$38.99 and  EH Taylor SmB:$47.99.

I was in Cape May, NJ today to see the Christmas decorations at Congress Hall,  and stopped by Collier's Liquors downtown.   Way overpriced, with 1792 Full Proof especially annoying at $79.95.     And the Pappy 10 at just $1,500 was an easy pass,   especially as it's the same juice, more or less,  as the (admittedly very good)  Weller Special Reserve I picked up this summer in Ohio for less than 30 bucks.

Out and about today. Stopped at one store and saw an open cardboard box with bottles in it sitting on the floor. Reached in and grabbed a bottle, it was the WT Jimmy Russell 70th. I took a bottle to the counter cause there wasn’t a spot on the shelf for it, nor was there a price on it. It wasn’t even in their system yet, so they couldn’t sell it to me. So I had to pass.

I think you should have waited for them to put it in the system.

It's no Weller, but it's pretty darn good.

Seriously, it was the managers day off. The employee that put the box behind the counter said she’d put in a good word for me with the manager. Who knows? That and the big tray of cookies I dropped off might just get me a fairly nice bottle sometime in the near future.

Passed up a 375ml blantons store pick @ $50. Sampled a few other barrel strength picks(JD rye & OF) but ultimately pased them up.

 That is a Cheap Bastard ploy.  Take a picture of a bottle that you don't purchase.

I passed on a case of HMcK10.    I was walking out of the liquor department of a very well stocked liquor department at a grocery store on the wealthy side of town.  They are having a spirits tasting tomorrow.  I happened to notice a case of HMcK10 sitting on a cart next to an employee who was stocking shelves of wine.  I didn't inquire about it since I have bought more than I needed to over the past few weeks.  I would have checked it out and at least touched the box if the employee wasn't standing next to it.
