Score 'n pour.  I opened it last night.  Eddie Russell's masterpiece?  Only time will tell, but it's possible.

  • 2 weeks later...

A few days ago on an other thread (peaked??), I mentioned that a local Wegman’s had plenty of basic BT albeit locked up.  Price?  $54 a 750 plus WashDC tax.  PASS.  Today after spending three hours with some helpers cleaning out 40 years’ worth of tools, crap, old nails, pieces of wood, old screens, crap, etc., in our garage, I cleaned up and then decided to clean up some utility room shelves by myself.  Moved bunches of bourbon from an extra-high shelf to one I can almost reach.

The point?  I celebrated by opening a four month old HANDLE of basic BT that cost me $54 plus WashDC tax that was on that top shelf.

I love BT’s spicy candy apple notes.  I sure hope the handle makes it through the weekend.😉

If you or fishnbowljoe ever pass through Indiana, the crazy way distributors/three tier system works - we get plenty of basic BT.  It's not too expensive either, like low $20 odd something a 750ml.  Almost every store has it.  It seems to come in waves.  One day many cases, the inventory gradually decreases to nearly nothing or nothing, then they get a whole bunch more again.

On the other hand, any of the higher end brands from BT/Sazerac we do not see.

Mrs jvd99 got this bottle for me years ago because she thought the bottle looks nice…and it does!! Jim Beam NAS finished in PX sherry casks 100 proof

This is a continuation of a recent promise to myself to drink more bunker and buy less new. And the stuff I’ve got stashed is mostly way better than anything I can buy

I received the same bottle from my brother years ago for Christmas.  It was unreal how quickly it was gone. Absolutely fantastic pour.

The other day I was coming home from downtown Indy and my route just happened to take me by a store with a great sale on KC.

Anyway, I got home and opened (or tried to) the bottle of KC and only the plastic cap came off.  I had to get vice-grips to pull the cork out.  It looks like they switched to some sort of hollow cap on top of the cork - not good.  And it seems all the extra corks I've saved, either too big or too small.  I guess I'll have to stick with the vice-grips.

I had that happen to me a while back @PaulO. I can’t remember what bottle it was though. Fortunately one of the old corks I kept fit. Just in case, and for 💩’s and giggles, I keep a couple of empty bottles around too. 😉

I'm going to look through a whole bunch of extra corks I have to find one that's just right.  The sale on KC was so good $19.99.  I bought several.  I might be needing to use the replacement cork multiple times.  At least the contents don't seem changed for the worse.

Same.  I have one in my bunker by brother picked up for me years ago.  Yet another bunker bottle I want to open!  I've tasted it in a bar and it's excellent.

THX for this.  As part of our attempts (uh, wife and me) to clean out house crap, spurred on by hearing about an older relative's Sisyphian task of cleaning out a house before moving into assisted living, I've consolidated several bourbon stashes.  KC 9 is well represented.

RE: the corks/stopper issues.  Years ago, I followed the advice of Smokinjoe and other SBers and started saving EVERY cork/stopper I could.  Among the scores on hand (a gallon plastic Zip-LOK holds quite a few), I almost always can find one at least close to fitting.

What did I open?  Nothing new, yet, but I have a basic MM on tap behind a couple OGD BIB bunkered bottles with the old orange screw cap.  Maybe it is time for a SBS . . .

Opened a WTKS that I picked up a couple of years ago. A warehouse “G” for those that care about that sort of thing.
On first blush, I can definitely tell the age of this one. Probably more age than the typical “8 years “ of WTKS. I look forward to exploring this bottle.

Cheers

This might be excellent. Nice first impression. Robust nose. Sweetness on the palate with some maple. Delicate finish w a touch of spice.

Score and pour!  As I chronicled in other pages, I found this today. So naturally, I had to open it up and give it a go.  On first blush, I have to say, this does honor Jimmy.  It doesn’t mimic the WT101 from the halcyon days of WT101, but is a great representation of today’s Wild Turkey distillate.

On first nose & sip, the age is obvious. Sweet oak, zero tannins.  Strong caramel candy in the beginning, coupled with a coca-cola note. This fades back and red fruits show up,  more like raspberries, than strawberries. The  Wild Turkey spice is present from the beginning  and is always there , all the way through the  long finish. The viscosity is thick, almost as if it is NCF. There is no mention of NCF on the bottle however.

Unless I show intended restraint, this bottle will vanish quickly.

I hope you are able to purchase a bottle for yourself.

Thankfully, Campari, is recognizing Mr. Russell’s steadfast  loyalty to his company and to the art of crafting consistently great bourbon for 70 years.

Mr. Russell represents the work ethic that we should all strive for and his bourbon is a tangible legacy of his efforts.  With exception of the price, this whiskey parallels Mr. Jimmy’s work ethic to the American working person’s.  Just as WT101 always has. Well done Jimmy Russell.

Cheers to Mr. Jimmy Russell

Opened an OESO from a really good run of  barrels that were coming out a year or two ago.  I’m historically not a big “O” recipe guy, but every barrel I’ve had from this run has been delicious.

This one is no exception, and even the cat came running as soon as I poured it.

Cheers to Friday!

Crazy. That 4R is dark as maple syrup. Incredible. Do you know the age?  I wish, I had one of those bottles.
Hail to The Cult!
Cats are smart ;-))
