Davesnothere
Opened this one tonight watching the Phils lock down a first round by. Started with the little brother as a palate cleanser, and the family resemblance is strong. I'm not terribly good at calling out notes, but this hits all the typical JD notes in a good way. I get an immediate spicy oak up front, not subtle, but not over oaked to the point of being dry. Then the spicy oak gives way to a bit of an ethanol hit that rapidly transitions into an elevated classic Jack banana note that lingers, and lingers, and lingers..... I can't remember a Jack offering that I would prefer over this Coy Hill release. Jack vs. Jack, I'd give this one a 9.87934526 Jack vs. The Field, 9.436709. (In my personal top 5). As always (dumb ass) opinions subject to change, offer not valid in AL, HI, or PR.

jvd99
2023 EC18 from the bunker, it’s one of the best iterations I’ve had, the pronounced bubblegum taste of years past isn’t so present, which makes a big difference, in a very good way….outstanding

This is the presentation rack - it’s uncut and judges don’t eat it, after judging the presentation, they cut them up and give to public. The tasting rack for the judges is just 11 bones off 1 rack in a foil pan with no garnish

jvd99
Here’s another then…(do you see a pattern of raiding the bunker of late?)
PaulO
Speaking of raiding the bunker - I was out of town several days, just got back. I went into the bunker, wanted something I'd really like. I came out with Old Forester Rye. We went to Western Indiana for my son's fall break. First, St. Mary of the Woods College (wife's alma mater) for homecoming, then stayed at a cabin in Turkey Run State Park. We went on a canoe trip through the park. We also explored and hiked natural wonders - canyons, old growth forests, etc. ... Really incredible stuff in that park. We've been three times and only seen a portion. Some of those trails, you better be an Olympic athlete or like Spiderman.
Double C's
decided to crack open this 21yr old 100% rye whiskey tonight. I sampled it prior to buying, otherwise I would have passed it based on it being a rye. It is very honey forward up front with the rye spice not coming in until the mid palate-finish. It's sweet enough that I actually like it for not being a rye drinker.

GaryT
WSR was never my favorite (in fact when it was 7 year age stated and $10 a 750mL here in Georgia I'd pass on it), but was in the mood for something lower proof and light - so why not. Last 7 yr WSR I had, and maybe it's true that 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' as this tasted better than I recall it being. Happy Friday-eve!

Anwalt
Well, it’s Sunday. There’s a Chianti I’ve been wanting to open. The Wifey and I decided to build a nice meal around it. So we bought ingredients (a longer process in PR than Stateside, trust me). Then we got dolled up and started cooking together, in this case the Frugal Gourmet’s (Jeff Smith, RIP) ragu sauce with noodles. Listening to the rat pack (our usual “cooking together” music), chopping, chatting, cooking. She had some wine and I started in on some newly opened bottles. The first was the Bakers 13y. I’ve never really had it, and have not been a huge fan of the Bakers 7; I prefer the Bookers. I really liked the Bakers 13. Flavorful, still an easy drinker, very Beam profile. I could drink it all day. More!
Anwalt
Second up: OGD16. I did not care for it at the Beam tasting...but again that was fleeting. I liked it far more today. 2 years ago I'd have found it much too oakey. Now...I think they got it right and separated it from the barrel just in time. I think the high-rye threw me off, that's still a taste that is growing on me. Very pleased with the bottle, I think I'll snag another one or two. Still processing it all, I just know that on a nice Sunday and given some time to sip & savor, it hit the spot. These different bottles do reflect that there's a lot that I like. A good many pours seem to be a "mood" thing for me. I can see this one falling into that category.
Anwalt
The last Cooking Booze was Woodford 118 proof. I tried a sampler of the 124 months ago and thought....is this Woodford? I like it waaaaay more. Same result here. It did taste an awful lot like high proof OF 1910. I get that Brown Forman makes both, I'll need to look up mashbills, etc. and see how close the two are. Very nice, chocolatey with a bit of coffee on the finish. I really want to see if this was double oaked. And then took a break to let the sauce simmer, the whiskey glow fade, and the hankering for the wine to build.
