Jazzhead
The Cask Strength I'm sipping now is my first exposure to the brand. It has a sugar cookie thing going, and sips very easy for the proof. I see no need to add water. Total Wine had both the Cask Strength and the single barrel Cask Strength on sale, so I sprung for the batched variety so I best could see what Nancy has wrought. Well done! It would be damning with faint praise to say this is the best Texas whiskey I've tasted. This is a fine, balanced pour, a rose in a fisted glove. That it hasn't been aged long enough to be labelled a straight is astonishing; the corn sweetness is pure pleasure. The word is that the Texas climate encourages fast aging; if so, Nancy has coaxed it to work its magic by creating a most delicate monster. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the SA Cask Strength! For the life of me, I'm not sure why the label does not have the "Straight" designation on it, because it certainly is. These days, the ages of the barrels I've been using for it are about 3 1/2, even close to 4 years old.
BourbonGuy
Still Austin questions continue to surprise. The local sent out a Still Austin email, letting me know what is available. First of all, I have purchased and tried Still Austin Straight Bourbon whiskey and then the Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon whiskey. I preferred the Cask Strength Bourbon. Now they have: · Cask Strength Bourbon · Cask Strength Bourbon, SINGLE BARREL · Straight Bourbon whiskey · 6 year bottled and bond. The Cask Strength Bourbon, SINGLE BARREL and 6 year bottled and bond command a premium price compared to the other two. Can someone help me with the differences? The single barrel product is hand-selected from a single barrel, whereas the others are a batched product made up of several different barrels mixed together to achieve a consistent profile batch after batch. The "Bottled In Bond" is by law bottled to certain specifications that you can find via a quick Google search. Still Austin's BiB is a seasonal series using different corn recipes, and is my favorite SA from their regular product line. You can read more about ther BiB series here: Still Austin Bottled In Bond series Good luck! Edited April 7 by Kepler
