Anwalt
Dinner with a friend and the wives. Had a very nice wine with smoked salmon & smoked tomahawk steak. So went light on the hard alcohol. All three were very good. The Ft Nelson and the HH17 were very, very good. That Michters tasted like "old man's bourbon" to me - and that's a compliment. I wonder which modern bourbon's come closest to the Good Old Ones.

bayouredd
Was going to wait for a special occasion & decided that 'I am still alive' was good enough!!! JMCB #257 ----- Nose was quick blast of fruitiness - so prominent that ethanol even took a backseat - butterscotch a big deal, also Palate - Fruit cocktail, butterscotch & hazelnut Finish quite long but subtle throughout Had a bit of burn, but in a dissipating sort of way A nice pull out for special occasions & will share with SIL visiting in a couple of weeks...

Jazzhead
I'm a great believer in letting a bottle air out before passing final judgement. This Asbury Park Small Batch Strait Bourbon , which initially struck me as redolent of mucilage, has opened up and proved to be quite drinkable. Of course, just about anything's drinkable out here on the deck at 12:30 in the morning, with the sea churning its song in the background. Gotta admit I dig not working anymore. I peruse the thread to see what folks are putting in the glass for sipping. I enjoy the pictures, give some thumbs up and move on. Sometimes the posts inspire a particular pour, sometimes I just live vicariously through the indulgences of others. It's not "edge of your seat" excitement, but I like it. As for tonight's pour, I'm comparing WTRB to WTKS from Camp Nelson - E. These CN-E bottles have been prevalent in my area, so I grabbed one for research purposes . I like both, but the WTRB is my strong preference when drinking these on separate days. We'll see if a direct back-to-back comparison yields a different outcome. I expect the WTRB will still win by a comfortable margin. I love Rare Breed! I love finding WTKS bottles. They are rarely available in New Jersey, and never in Pennsy. As single barrels at 101 proof, they represent the jazz version of WT.
