I learned something today.  Detroit is like the coney dog capital of the world.  I thought NY was with Coney Island.  But, Michael Symon says otherwise.

As detailed over in the "What bottle did you open today?" thread, I've been enjoying New Riff 8 Year tonight.  After 2 pours of that, I thought I'd pour a Spec's store pick SiB New RIff.  Yep, I think I prefer younger New Riff over the 8.  That's my first impression anyway, ... time will tell as I go back to the bottles for repeat tastings.

HA!   Well, it was 'mostly Bourbon', having started with that half-bottle (about 380-400-ml) then adding those several dashes of bitters, it was a pretty Bourbon-forward kinda Old Fashioned.    The dregs of that Elijah Craig Old Fashioned mix (which is pretty goo, IMHO) might have made one more small cocktail; but, I decided (about 6-months ago) to just make that half-bottle of 'slightly-flavored Bourbon'.  EW being pretty low-proof was influenced enough to slant the taste toward that of an actual Old Fashioned... just not very far in that direction. Heeee-Heeeeee!

Last day visiting my buddy from TN. Finally got him to try the ECBP C922. He loved it with just a little ice.

Pours of Weller SR and Blanton’s were enjoyed last night. I’m not sure what’s going on. I can’t find a leak in my bottle of Blanton’s, but the fill level sure has gone down a lot

since I opened it a couple of weeks or so ago.  🫥

a pour of AA and 4RYL from the freezer after spending the afternoon installing some security features to my house. My subdivision has had to deal with some teenage riff raff lately and I thought it was in our best interest to finally put some cameras up. Better safe than sorry.

Stopped by a friend's to pick up cruise ship goodies. Had already had the ration for the day. But he offered the 4R 16y Kentucky Strong. One simply does not say "No" to that.

 

I think it's my favorite 4R, ever. Needs to be side by side with '23 SBLE. Just to be sure.

I've been trying to kill the moles tearing up my back yard, and finally got one today. They've been evading the trap, but I got lucky seeing one moving around while i was outside just a bit ago. A celebratory pour was in order for my small victory in the war against these pests.

I had to run out to the beach crib to meet with a roofer who had to cancel and reschedule for tomorrow.   So it's just me and my lonesome tonight watching Philllies - Twins.    No reason not to break out the good stuff.

I've stuck with WTKS as my preferred way to sip Turkey,  and usually have a bottle open.    Curated single barrels of the world's best bourbon at its perfect proof.  What''s not to like?

Maker’s Cask Strength to help ease the pain of a trying day at the plastic factory.  It’s really one of my favorite bourbons, and while I like regular Maker’s, I continue to be stunned with how much more I like this at cask strength.  I’m at the point where I may stop “regularly” buying standard MM altogether, because the availability of CS is excellent, and its price premium is so worth it for me.  Bordering on, not close anymore.  This is not meant as a dis on standard MM, but rather a simple recognition of how well CS Maker’s suits me.  Standard Makers was one of my Gateway Bourbons, so I will always have one on my bar, regardless.  In fact, I’ll go get another tomorrow.  😁

WT Generations.  It has been several days of outdoor  work ( second coat on shed, weeding around pool, lawn care and pool care).  Now I’m watching as some guys drop a 85’ tulip poplar that has taken a rather “wonky “ shape over the shed.  I should have had it done before the shed makeover but I couldn’t reach him until today.

I am a card holding member of the flock.  All of their expressions have been and are staples in my bar.  This is a whole new path of blending for them.  
It is definitely worth a pour and if you encounter a bottle, I would not hesitate (nor will I given another opportunity).

Bourbon/beer/cigar night at the Legion. It’s one of our guys birthday. He had to quit drinking alcohol last year. He’s allowed one drink every so often. Special day, special pour. Whadaya think? I think I chose a good ‘un for him. 😎  FWIW, since he quit drinking, he’s shared pretty much all of his open bottles with us. We'd bring empty sample bottles, he’d fill ‘em and return them to us. Rinse, wash, repeat. 😁
