MountainValley
New to StraightBourbon but not to Bourbon of Whiskey. While it is fun to try Scotch and other like wheat whiskey, my preference has always been bourbon. While I am from the area close to the distilleries in Kentucky, through a lot of circumstance, some bad and some good, I find myself in the NYC Metro. Recently, I downloaded a Whisky Map App that has a list of distilleries. I had no idea how large craft distilleries had gotten. I assumed most craft distilleries would sell vodka or something similar. Fast to make and aging not required. However, this does not seem to be the case. I knew there were craft distilleries making bourbon in Kentucky, as I ran by New Riff by when visiting family. However, the map for the NYC metro making whiskey is much larger than I thought. The map is below, not all make whiskey anymore and often they don’t make bourbon. Please let me know which are worth visiting for bourbon and what you think about them. NYC metro continues to surprise me. I never thought there would be local bourbon and even shooting ranges.
Jazzhead
Welcome to the board! Craft bourbon is coming into its own as more and more have the ability to release four-plus year old product, including BIBs. New York distillers have attempted to build a reputation for rye whiskeys, putting down quality markers for so-called Empire Rye. Most I've tried have been okay, but I don't think I've yet to purchase a repeat bottle.
