fishnbowljoe
It was stock up day at Sam’s Club yesterday. As always, I had took a look see at the bourbon. Passed on everything. First time I’ve seen this in a while.

And yes us cheap bastards may remember when it was only $26ish (or maybe even less for some of y'all) but I agree $54 is a decent price for a 10 year BiB SiB in today's market. It's a very solid bourbon and I'm glad to see it on the shelves again. Come to think of it, this gives me the idea that I need to crack open a new one of these from my bunker ... it's been far too long since I had one open on my bar... 0895
The bourbon landscape has changed a lot here in the past 6 months. Nice to see this lingering on shelves now.

At some point we started having a more or less steady supply of that on the shelf.

It's been solid every time for me, but I've had a limited amount of bottles. 11 hours ago, Kepler said: It's closer to $60 than $54 in my neck of the woods currently. I'm basically a spilt milk theorist. If you enjoy it (all men's hobbies) then don't lament on what you spent. If it does suck, don't do it again. (too many times, anyway) While $26 is a fond memory for some (I only go back to the $35 days), I do remember .33 a gallon gas, of course I wasn't driving but was mowing grass & a .33 loaf of bread. The only difference is that my 97 year old Mom thinks those prices still exist and I just move on with a bit of cursing, dammit...

I can't think of very many high-quality products that I paid for (or overpaid for) that I regret purchasing. Over time I totally forget the price I paid and instead I just enjoy owning the quality product. It goes for consumer goods, cars, etc. .. and it goes for whiskey too. Now, if the product turns out to be subpar, then of course regret comes into play, big time.

It never went away from shelves here in Texas, and I just can't comprehend it being so sought after. Kind of like regular BT and WSR. I never understood the appeal.

I see that....and I use a similar analogy about booking airfare or vacations.....unless they'll refund the difference I won't look at prices after I've booked... PaulO
I was grocery shopping yesterday, and several HMcK still on the shelf. I saw something new - Yellowstone 101 (finished in cognac and brandy barrels) @ just under $150. And the different versions of KY Owl continue to sit there.
Clueby
Was at Wally's (think slightly smaller Bucee's) and saw what I thought was ECBP. Got closer and it was EC Toasted Barrel for $55. Passed but an interesting find at a big chain gas station. I know they had their own KC120 store pick a while back.
LW25
Turned down Heaven Hill Grain to Glass (Bourbon and Rye, didn't see the Wheated) at $109 last week. I heard not great reviews of the rye, and just didn't feel like >$100 was the right price.
PaulO
I have to correct, the Yellowstone 101 is $115, saw it again today. Still a pass.
PaulO
I was at TW the other day and saw they had a single barrel selection of EC - 8 years old and barrel proof @ $98 "limit one". There appeared to be plenty, multiple cases stacked up. Could it be the barrel selectors at TW picked one that's so good, it's worth more than $20 a bottle more than other stores in town.

It feels like every store around me has had an EC Private Select/Store Pick within the past year. I can't buy them all, so I just take the approach of buying none of them. They're always ~8-9 years old, so younger than the normal ECBP batches, but they're always priced the same or slightly higher than ECBP. I often have that same thought as you though. I love ECBP and always buy them when I see the new batches, and I may be missing out on some great barrel picks by skipping these, but same/higher price for younger just doesn't peak my interest enough to pull that trigger... I can't stand the pricing model that TW uses for their barrel picks. They are always higher than anyone else's pick of the same product in my area, and I won't buy picks from them unless it is something that is hard to come by anywhere else.

Thankfully, most reputable stores will have a bottle open for samples so that you can try it first to see if it is worth the extra coin. I have a 10yr EC pick from a local store that I wasn't sure about based on price, but after sampling it I really liked it, even though it is in the 122pf range. It is balanced and not nearly as ethanol forward as some of those 8-9yr ~130pf picks can be.
LW25
Stopped in a small 'hole in the wall' store that I've had somewhat good luck at in the past. Owner pulled a GTS out of the back and plunked it on the counter. Me: What's your price on this? Him: What will you give me for it? Me: Just take it back, I'll already tell you there's no way I'm buying it if that's your response. Him: Come on man, I want to make you a good price. Me: This is your store. You set the price. If we're going to have a negotiation, I'm not the one that goes first. Him: Well what do you think your max would be? Me: Like I said, far less than you'll sell it for, I guarantee you. I turned to head for the door and he says "I'll give you this GTS for $700 if you buy one other bottle". Easiest decline of my year so far.

I probably would have started the negotiation with MSRP ~$150 - just to see the look on his face.
