15 year old MGP juice.  I have one but have not opened it yet.

Please let us know what you think if you decide to open it.

Good to see that the neighbors know what “motivates’ you ;}

Well, believe it or not, I actually got out today to do some shopping. And I found/bought some things!

The place  I went to actually had ECBP  A124 on the shelf!  119proof for roughly $77 and change. I picked one up.  The clerk told me that "they just probably got it off the stock shelf." He indicated they haven't yet received any B524 or C924.   So, I have a starting point. It's not B524, but I can still look for one and work with this.

I also found a 1792 "Full Proof"  (125proof) for like $44.00,  and I restocked on my Bulleit Bourbon as well.

So, should I start with the A124 or with the 1792 full proof?

Have someone pour an ounce of each in separate glasses, and tell them to not tell you which is which. That way you can compare them with no bias of previous knowledge.

Those are both good (ECBP is my favorite that's pretty regularly available), but they have very different profiles.

Well, unfortunately, I had no additional person, but I did my best.  I took 1/2 shots of each and tried them both.  Both are interesting and had decent burn.  I find, though, that the A124 seems to have bit of a "bitter/tart" flavor to it (sort of like if you made tea with old/bad maple (or cigar) leaves or something). 😝  Might just be a specific barrel issue. I'll look for it with the next purchase (I"m still after a B524).  The 1792 full proof was great! A bit stronger burn, but I could live with that.

Overall, I'm definitely happy with both.   Still,  I will continue to pursue a B524 for comparison.

BTW,  A125 is already out.   118.2 proof, aged 10y 7mo.

Spent the Holidays back home in TX. Came home with the bottles in the pic. The King Ranch has a slightly spicy lean with hints of vanilla while the mesquite filtering adds a different type of tang. Haven’t cracked the Scarlet Shade yet!

That bitter/tartness you speak of is the oak influence in ECBP. 1792FP isnt aged as long, so it less oaky. I don't know exactly how long it's aged, I'm guessing 6-8 years.

Not fancy or expensive..... but kind of hard to get... unless you own a bar. I asked the owner at a local bar and grill how he gets the one liter bottles of Buffalo Trace, because they are non existent out in the real world. He said they  (ditributor) make him buy 12 bottles at a time. He asked if I wanted one, I said hell yes! He sold me one for $40.00. 😎

Makes sense.   Yes, the A124 is aged 10yr 9 mo.    I'll look out for the oakiness next time I try it. Might even try the A124 compared to my Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and see.

Nice! I have seen one on the shelves for about a month so I know what they cost. I believe it is probably well worth the cost but it is just outside of my budget.

A very nice thank you gift!

It seems to come and go in Indy.  I will see 750s and 1.75s on the shelves then it disappears for a while.

Treated myself with the first shop in a while. Got  what I came for, a liter of 101 for $28 and a BT for $23, but couldn't resist a RR15 for $320 (prob should have bought the other one they had as well), and a CEHTBPR for $200. My first of each of these.

Same here. A few places get some, then it disappears for a few weeks. Rinse, wash repeat. Our local Binny’s has been a bit “odd” lately. A few bottles show up, then nothing. Then they get cases of it. Again, rinse, wash repeat.😏

These arrived today at the recommendation of a friend of mine who raves about this whiskey.

Even if he hadn't,  the Mizunara cask finish is intriguing enough that I wanted to try it.

My cheap-ass  probably would've only bought one but, based on his recommendation,  and there are two barrels, I got one of each.

Glad for your purchases @Skinsfan1311. That being said, if there are any further transgressions of this nature, your membership in “The Cheap Bastard Club” might have to be reevaluated. Happy New Year, and have a nice day! 😁

Okay...just to protect my reputation for frugality, may it please the court and jury to offer exhibits A & B as proof-positive than I am, and always will be, a card-carrying member of "The Cheap Bastard Club"?

I rest my case!

Tonight, I tried another pair of half shots. In this case, one is A124 and the other is WR Double Oaked.  Yes, it seems that these two are much better matched in re: flavor.

The bitterness/tartness of A124 seems lessened tonight. I can still taste it but it is far less pronounced.  Much better!

I think next, I'll try 1/2 shots of the WRDO and 1792 full proof and see.
