I like to add one of these charred oak spirals to the newly opened bottle and let it sit for a couple of weeks. It takes some of the young edge away and gives it more complexity. Butterscotch might well have been the weird note that I remember from my only Benchmark experience (Single Barrel). I remember it tasting quite odd (different than any straight bourbon I've had) but after I got used to it, it wasn't off-putting. It became a "mood pour" and when I was in the mood, the bottle emptied in short order. I just didn't feel it was worth purchasing again. Side note: these Benchmark products should all be in the $11 to $15 range if they expect to make it in the long run.

Looking forward to a pour of this at Beam in April (assuming they still have it at the distillery bar). As an OGD BiB/114 fan I'm very curious about this one, not curious enough to seek out a bottle, never saw one anyway, but a bar pour should suffice. If not, I am guessing its not the last aged OGD we will see.
LW25
Picked up two Old Forester 1924's last Friday. I told a good buddy to pick one up for me if he found it, then I went into a store and found one myself. Texted him after I left to call him off the search for me, and he replied that he'd just bought two (one for me) about 30 minutes prior. Couldn't leave him stuck with it so I gave him the $, but I really didn't want two of them so trying to find someone in a local FB group that wants one now. The trouble is that the store where I bought the one, that owner is in all the FB groups as well so I don't want him thinking I'm re-selling his bottles, so I can't post it. And I'm not trying to flip it, I just want my money back, no profit...but the optics will be bad either way...

Davesnothere
We've made a concerted effort to not buy any bourbon this year. However, I had a brief business trip that took me past Jim Beam earlier this week. I have been looking for both of these and finally hit pay dirt at the distillery shop.
Davesnothere
Stopped by one of my regular Nashville haunts. The EC C924 finally made it to my neck of the woods. They still had a few bottles of their Stagg store pick left. The Sagamore was an impulse buy. I tried a sample and thought it was terrific.

NDN98
Right place at right time and finally picked one of these up. I’ve been wanting to find it for quite some time. It was MSRP too.

I see lots of wonderful reviews about Benchmark Full Proof as well as the Single Barrel, and I like a good value; so I purchased a Full Proof to give it a try. It's toilet water, absolutely terrible. Bought it a couple of years ago and I was not a fan and will never buy it again.
LW25
Met some out-of-state family this weekend at a town halfway between us. Poked into a couple stores and came away with a Peerless Double Oak for $80.

Kepler
I picked up the Old Forester variety pack that has 375 mL versions of OF 1920, 1910 and 1897. I've had multiple bottles of all these in full size before (still have a couple of 1920s in the bunker) but the price on this sampler kit was reduced enough that it finally made sense to buy it.

I have wanted one of those variety packs since I saw they had just come out. The one place I found had it wanted $150. That would be the same or more than if I bought three 750mls of same. They are usually around $95 here in Texas which still never tempted me to buy it. I got this one on sale so there was no penalty for the smaller volume. I wanted it because I didn't want to buy anymore full sized 1910 and 1897 bottles but I wouldn't mind having a sample around to compare to other things. Plus I'm curious about the rumor that newer releases of 1920 are not as good as the earlier releases, and my 1920 bottles are from the first year. Now I can research it myself. I have given this as gifts a couple of times to friends who were just getting into bourbon and it's a great introductory to Old Forester. MSB
When I was out in KY a few yrs ago working and enjoying the Trail, I was talking to a guy (customer) at Preservation and he dabbled in blending and had a friend that was helping him along. I don't believe either one of them did it professionally, as a matter of fact he was a retired law enforcement officer that enjoyed drinking and blending bourbon. He told me that if I were to blend equal parts of OF1910 and OF 1920, some know it as OF 1915, and you let marry in a dark cool closet for 6 months you would end up with OF Birthday juice. So that is what I did with my sample pack. I enjoyed the bib and blended the other two. Now I wait.

Blending two 5 year old whiskies doesn't yield an 11 or 12 year old whiskey. Oh, if it were just that simple.
