TNbourbon
I ran across this after Drew Kulsveen joined the Chat Room for a lively discussion, after which I 'Googled' the Kulsveens for references. Even and Drew attended last year.Though pricey, this event has a lot of Kentucky bourbon highlights -- Vendome and Woodford Reserve tours, Brown-Forman tasting, workshops attended last year by some of the boutique distillers mentioned in the recent LA Times story logged here: LA Times story threadGo here for institute info/costs:American Distilling InstituteThe attached conference schedule is a PDF document. 37924-2005DistillingInstitute.pdf
cowdery
The American Distilling Institute is a Bill Owens production. Some of you may remember him as the publisher of American Brewer and a leader in the home brew/micro brew movement. Essentially, he is now trying to do the same thing with small scale distilling. The institute's web site is www.distilling.com.The organization and its spring event are intended for distillers and prospective distillers, as opposed to "enthusiasts" like most of us. Bill an interesting and passionate guy, who is also an acclaimed photographer. His vision of micro-distilling is of people making malt whiskey in pot stills and he tunes out when I try to explain to him how that is not the American whiskey-making tradition, but I wish him all the best.
