Hedmans Brorsa
This post features a bottle of Wild Turkey 12yo split label. This is the 12yo that I have at home. D´ye mean to say that it is rare? I thought it was the latest design. (All this of course written just to force Jim to put it back into the Bourbon section! )
TNbourbon
..D´ye mean to say that it is rare? I thought it was the latest design... As it's not bottled anymore for any market, I understand, ANY Wild Turkey 12yo is increasingly rare -- and valued by just about anyone who's had it. The last label was a one-piece design:
wadewood
As it's not bottled anymore for any marketTim, I thought this was still bottled for export. I just bought a bottle at SeaTac airport duty free, 700cl size.
jbutler
Thanks Lennart, I really appreciate your help. This would of course be a first. A thread strays off topic, then goes back on once pruned. I give up! I have a few bottles of WT12 in boxes identical to that one, though I have not looked at tham in so long I don't remember the labeling. I'll go out to the bunker in a bit and look. Hedmans Brorsa
Thanks Lennart, I really appreciate your help. Doin´ my best, Jim. And, Tim, thanks for your comment. The 12yo has occasionally been available through specialist shops on the continent. Maybe it´s time to pick up another bottle. My split label bottle is indeed excellent with, er, perhaps wild cherries on top of the usual WT complexity. Definitely worth parting some hard-earned cash for. Though I thought I remembered a picture from last year's WT tour of Dane hugging a pallet of it , or some such amorousness .
barturtle
I'm not sure how up to date WT keeps their website (it still lists RR 101) but they list WT 12 as being available--duty-free, Japan and Canada(?!?).
gr8erdane
Ah Tim, but that wasn't WT12 I was snuggling up to, it was Tribute. See my avitar to the left <---------

gr8erdane
It was last year's SB.com group tour of WT with the best tour guide imaginable, Jimmy Russell. Tribute was just being released and while walking through the warehouse I found a whole pallet. I tried to put my address on the shipping label but didn't have a pen on me so I had to settle for a quick hug and snapshot to hold me over until I finally procured a bottle through Tim (TNbourbon). I didn't see a pallet of 12 yr there that day but then again the Tribute was center stage on that weekend.

That does seem high. What did 12 yo go for when it was more available???Thanks, Ken
cas
I spotted a bottle this past weekend for $53. It was the nicer label - not the kind of cheap looking gold one.Craig
bluesbassdad
I just had to chime in here, if only to change the subject line. I think the bourbon that I once called the Super Bowl Champion of Bourbon deserves as much. IIRC, I've bought WT 12 y/o on only two occasions, both of them about three or four years ago. The one I bought in Long Beach, CA was $50, IIRC. The two that I ordered from a shop in the S.F. Bay area were about the same. I'd guess it's less widely available by now, and I would expect the price to be higher. Is it worth $60-70 per bottle? I'd say it depends upon one's financial circumstances. Even as one of those fixed-income retirees you hear about, I think it's worth that much for one's first (and what may turn out to be one's last) bottle, just for the revelatory experience. dougdog
What did 12 yo go for when it was more available??? In California I've generally found it for two prices, the lowest being 49.99 and sometimes slightly more for 51.99...any higher than that and somebody is lookin' to take a little extra advantage. Even at 65 bucks a bottle, I'd still have the clerk ring it up...it is that good!

Craig Don't let the label fool you. Many feel that the Gold label 12yo was the best of the 12s. I haven't had any of the split-label, but having sampled two bottles of the gold, I have to say that it wouldn't surprise me!
luv2hunt
I believe these were originally $45 plus tax, so the $65 kind of "irks" me. I can drive up by that liquor store next thursday to grab them. I have a few in the bunker, so I don't need them......but I'd be happy to help out those of you who love it! Joe....I'll let you know when I have it!Dawn
cas
Actually, I found a stash of the gold label at a local shop earlier this year. It was 39.99 a bottle, so I have purchased most of it.Craig
TMH
What did 12 yo go for when it was more available???The bottle I picked up, which was covered with dust, had a very old sticker and was $49. This was a small shop with higher prices than most. My understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong)is that WT pulled 12 because it was priced too high for the US market and a decision was made to sell it in the Japanese market for more money, where it is still sold today. Ironicly, it's more widely available and sold for less in Japan today than it was sold in the US. During my most recent annual visit to Japan, which covered more than one geographic area, it was a very common sight in most liquor stores. I wouldn't be surprised if you'd find it at 7-Eleven. In US$ value it's around $45, but I've seen it for as low as $42. Today, Japan is paying a lot less than the US was paying when WT12 was here in the 80's -90's. If you take inflation into consideration, $45 in 1980s dollars is much higher than $45 in today's dollar. Also, the price in Japan includes overseas shipping and any other fees charged for an imported good.
