Would you be willing to tell us what else may be getting low on inventory? Given the age of the AAA 10 yr., I'm getting a little worried that I may not be able to find OC 12 in the future, and it's one I definetely like to have around. Should I stock up on it, or anything else?

After visiting over 50% of the stores in my metro area over the course of the last 6-8 weeks, I found only 1 that had any AAA-10yo still on the shelf. I did spot some AAA 10-Star (6yo) in several stores but left them where they sat. The remaining stores that I did not pay a visit are in parts of town that likely never even carried AAA-10yo anyway. If you like AAA-10yo or just want to stock up some for future trading fodder, best to take action soon. The 1 store I mentioned had 4 AAA-10yo in 1 liter bottles last week. I bought 1, leaving 3 more that I plan to buy tomorrow.

I bought a bottle of Buffalo Trace yesterday. 750ml $19.99 I didn't think that was too bad. I was a little disappointed in the flavor, it wasn't quite what I expected because I had read so much about it on here. I may have to revisit this one tonight.

We have a lot of BT at $18/bottle here in New Orleans. I tasted some yesterday from the "brown liquor cabinet" at the store where I work. It's definitely a nice bourbon for the price. It's not challenging in terms of being a complex drink. But it's certainly worth having on the shelf, at least for my tastes. I may get this one to have around for times when we have company who would like to drink bourbon, but won't necessarily appreciate the qualities of some of my more expensive bottles.

Buffalo Trace is not available everywhere in Texas. You can get it in Dallas and Houston, but forget about it in Austin and San Antonio. I guess there just isn't enough of the pour to go around. Good for the price ($20), but better can be had for the same money. Actually, it is pretty tasty...now I want some.

I agree it is worth having on the shelf. I would even buy it again.

I usually see it for about $20/bottle. It's a decent bourbon with a great nose, but I was a little underwhelmed given the hype I'd heard about it.

Sam Houston and its bunker-mate Jefferson's Reserve are bottled by Mclain and kyne "Distillery." It's not really a distillery though, as they simply bottle whiskey purchased from someone else; presumably Heaven Hill. Both are somewhat overpriced IMO.

I agree. It's sitting in my office [read "client justified office stash"] but I was a tad disappointed in Sam Houston. I thought it had a little bite on the aftertaste -- a tiny bit like Jack Daniels etc. like there is nothing to mellow the rye portion. Don't get me wrong, it will still be drunk within next six months...:grin:
