pepcycle
In response to Virus of Life on Stagg vs WellerThe Beauty of BT. Two great products, both barrel proof, yet so different in style and character. Exactly why you need them both. Not that one is better or worse, but different. Doncha think? BobA
Christian,I think you're right, it is unfair to taste Old Overholt after two barrel proofs. But at least you were still able to see its virtues. It would be great if they'd put it out in a higher or older bottling. Now that I think of it, of the 4 or 5 lower-priced whiskys that I just automatically replace when empty, OO is the only 80 proof one. Last night's drink was another; OGD 114.Bob

tmas
I'll play, Sam Houston is in the glass tonight. We don't talk about this one much on this forum, but it is an awfully nice drink. I think this one is a close cousin in flavor to ETL/Buffalo Trace, but I know that it is not a BT bottled product. It is a little dryer, but close.I agree on the Sam Houston. Had a bottle about a year ago and really enjoyed it but I've been unable to find it since. Do you happen to know who distills it and if it is still available? BourbonJoe
Sam Houston is bottled by the Zoeller Brothers (same people who bottle Jefferson Reserve). We don't know who distills it, as the Zoeller Brothers won't say. Joe

camduncan
An impromptu hit of golf at the local driving range resulted in a dinner invitation with friends (I'm a batchelor for the weekend - Jen is at the Australian Country Music awards supporting a girlfriend who'se been nominated for best new act ) They offered me a couple of cans of Woodstock bourbon Blue label with cola to try - I was definately impressed. I think I'm going to have to pick up a bottle of this to sample neat

T47
I'm starting with WT 101, my son just headed out for a drive across the State to get back to College, and there is a little blizzard going on between us and there...I think its going to be a long night
bluesbassdad
Earlier this evening I really enjoyed my glass of Elmer T. Lee, the outgoing Bourbon of the Month. The pumpkin pie spice and hint of cinnamon are still there. I find it hard to believe that I once likened this bourbon to Lavoris mouthwash.I've been disappointed the last three times I've poured from my bottle of EC12. It's been open well over a year, probably closer to two. Maybe that's a factor. The hint of eucalyptus in the nose is gone. The palate is generic bourbon. The finish is painfully dry; it reminds me of wood ash. I don't think I'll finish this bottle, and it will be a while before I replace it. I may not even finish the glass I have in front of me. Why persist in something I am not enjoying, when I have dozens of more appealling choices on the shelf?Yours truly,Dave Morefield

kbuzbee
The last two evenings, I've gone back to an old friend, Maker's Mark. For some reason this whisky has kind of fallen off my regular pours list. It is a bit on the mellow side. I usually prefer the roaring ryes. But these two evenings, something more subdued was called for and Maker's came through with flying colors. I poured it into my SZ nosing glass to really capture the aeromatics. Nice, sweet, very floral in the nose, hints of butter and honey on fresh baked bread. The palate continued those impressions with smooth silky sweetness. This was the right Bourbon for these two evenings.Ken
DrinkyBanjo
Makers is the best my local has to offer. I usually drink beer while I'm there but if I'm smoking a cigar, which I won't be after 4/15 of this year, I'll go for a Makers. I usually enjoy it but being that I have it often enough I rarely go for it at home.

NorCalBoozer
yesterday had side by side ER 10 y.o. 101 proof and ER 10 y.o. 90 proof single barrel (bevmo bottling). This is the first time i had ever tried the 101 but I have had the SB before.Very impressed with the ER 101.......very unimpressed with the single barrel. the 101 seemed to have much bolder flavors and balance, very very enjoyable pour...the SB seemed more fruity/sweet and favors more muted. goodbye 101, i barely knew ye. BourbonJoe
Tonight I had a pour of Old Overholt Rye. First time I tried this. This is one super rye whiskey, especially for 14 bucks a bottle. I guess I'm gonna have to stock the bunker because this will be a regular pour from now on.Joe :usflag:
