CrispyCritter
I'm finishing up a Turkey Trio - first WTRR 101, then Rare Breed, and now a pour of WT Rye. :toast:One thing I've noticed is that they all share a certain "house style" - even the rye. All of them have a spiciness inside (nutmeg/clove?); the RR101 tends toward the sweet, the RB towards the dry, and the rye heads deeper into the spice rack. All of them are superb pours. ProofPositive
Experimenting a little tonight with ETL, the outgoing BOTM. I decided to cut into the sweet side of ETL just a bit with some BT from a local retailer's 'handpicked' single barrel. As a 1:1 mix with 3 small ice cubes, the BT overrides the ETL a bit more than to my liking. Next one, I'll cut back on the BT and see what results. Don't get me wrong, I like ETL just fine but at times would like to see it have a little more 'bite'. This was just one of those times.
1holegrouper
What I like to do instead of mixing the actual drink is start out the evening with a smooth bourbon like ETL or EWSB and then make my last drink a stronger bourbon like Knob Creek or WTRB
Virus_Of_Life
Started the night with Black Maple Hill 11yo, yep it is becoming a favorite you are right. And gosh darn the glass is now empty.... Stay tuned for what I finish the evening off with, it's a difficult decision!
ProofPositive
Finally got around to opening my first bottle of EWSB '95 tonight. This is definitely a bottle I should have already opened. After reading so many positives on here, why in the world did I wait so long? It is GREAT!!!!
Virus_Of_Life
OK, well, since I was away from it for a while in Oregon, I figured I'd hit the BOTM again and have a little more ETL. And I have to say that "favorite pour right about $20" category is getting so full that I just said heck with it, just like I tell anyway who asks me what my favorite bourbon is, I just can't choose. This pour of ETL tastes better than the previous, maybe that 'open bottle effect' maybe just my mood...
ProofPositive
This pour of ETL tastes better than the previous, maybe that 'open bottle effect' maybe just my mood...I have been practicing the 'open bottle effect' here lately and am finding there is definitely something to it. At first, I had my doubts....but, it does seem to work & help.
1holegrouper
Last night I finished off a bottle of EWSB '96 then I proceeded to a new bottle of ETL. What I found interesting is that my MEMORY of ETL was that is was very similar in smoothness and general flavor to EWSB. However in a back-to-back comparison I was able to observe the enhanced complexity in flavor of the ETL. This is why, in my opinion that ETL is lauded by so many. It's 'scary' smooth yet retains flavor complexities often reserved for the 'hotter'/stronger bourbons.
EBIGGEST
 I RECENTLY GOT ANDERSON CLUB AND PRIVATE CELLAR, VERY GOOD FOR THECOST. THEY ARE NOT LISTED ANY WHERE, BUT BOTH COME FROM BARDSTOWN, KY
MGillespie
Found a bottle of WTRR 101 at one of the local liquor stores this week...and now I understand why you guys complained when they changed it to a 90 proof. It's great, and I'll have to track down a couple of more bottles while I can...Mark__________________________Catch WhiskyCast on the web at www.whiskycast.com, or subscribe to the podcast! www.whiskycast.libsyn.com/rss
Virus_Of_Life
Wasn't going to have anything as I need a nap but figured I'd try out the 'dumping jigger' that came in the EWSB gift pack I picked up over the weekend. So I opted for a small pour of VWSR, nice I do enjoy this but I am just not entirely sure I enjoy it at it's price... One thing though I found is that my typical pour is more than 2 ounces! No wonder I feel the way I do the mornings after drinking GTS and WLW!Are those little emoticon thangs gone now with this new software?

Forbes
You know sometimes I'll come home after a hard day, skip all the top shelf stuff, and just reach for a shot (or two) of Old Forester 86. Nothing fancy but a good bourbon.Todd
CrispyCritter
There are some amazingly good things on the lower shelves (even if they're not available everywhere) - AAA 10, Old Fitz BIB, Weller 12/90 and 7/107 - exceptional values, all under $20, some very much so. As much as I like Stagg, Van Winkle, etc. (not to mention the much higher prices for Scotch!), I shouldn't forget that good whiskey doesn't have to cost a small fortune. As for tonight, I went with three completely different pours - first, one of good old reliable BT, then some Bernheim Straight Wheat (expensive, but a nice treat nonetheless), and now some Aberlour 10yo (to me, one of the best values in SMSW) for a nightcap. T47
I have found myself reaching for the WT Rare Breed more often. I really enjoy this Bourbon. It seems darker, to me smooth yet rich, and then the spices just seem to explode. There have been a couple bottles I enjoyed, but will try another rather than replace them, this Rare Breed for me is a keeper, I will replace this bottle when its gone. ProofPositive
I've been under the weather a few days and figured to be feeling good enough this evening to shake off the doldrums. So, in order to make sure no more germs overtake me, thought it best to reach for the top shelf and pull down some of the better liquid gold in the keep......WT Kentucky Spirit. I don't know what it is.....maybe just a great barrel. This bottle (and a second one I found on the same shelf) came from an early barrel of KS that was bottled on 1/21/00. I have to say that although I have yet to crack open my Pappy 15 or 23, this KS is the best bourbon I have yet to try in my short time back in bourbondom. I have a feeling the aforementioned 2 Pappys plus ORVW 15 and WT Tribute will probably top KS as I get to those bottles in the future. However, at present KS is the King of the Top Shelf in my small collection and tonight I am enjoying it quite well.
Virus_Of_Life
I would like to try WT Tribute sometime but alas like many others it does not seem easy to come by! :stickpoke:THANKS TIM!! I knew it had to be there some where!

doubleblank
I'm going with Hancock's Reserve tonight. I've had this bottle open for some time.....so this is a revisit. Its fairly one dimensional. Sort of like a low octane ET Lee. Certainly easy to drink, but one would expect more flavor for the money charged for this one.Randy
wku88
Well, I finally got to try the Four Roses SB tonite (thank God for friends in KY!), and I was kinda dissapointed. Tasted more like a premium Canadian or a weak Scotch. Not to say it was bad, but I expected a more robust taste. Got a pour of Old HH 100 proof BIB right now, and it is delish! Not quite on the same level as the Very Old HH 10YO, but enjoyable just the same.
ProofPositive
Customizing a bit this evening from among my various WT bottles - 101, RR & KS + ice.
Virus_Of_Life
Actually started the night with Old Overholt, kind of weak smooth pour but still pretty good flavor and from there went to the BOTM George T Stagg, good goly miss molly do I love this one, have since the first taste last Spring and sincerely think the latest release is better! Then just a touch of EWSB and then a tiny bit of WT Rye one of my favorites to finish the night with.

Then I'm thinking some Noah's Mill neat followed by some 2004 Stagg to finnish off an evening watching my Eagles DVD on the projector in the downstairs rumpus room
DrinkyBanjo
Okay, first I tried Eagle Rare 10 YO Single Barrel and now my first taste of Eagle Rare 101. During these first impressions I prefer the ER 10 YO SB a little bit over the 101. Seems a bit more mature and sophisticated. Both would be appreciated at any time though.Yesterday I was at a Cigar Bar and had a Knob Creek followed by a Blantons. I enjoyed the Knob Creek much more than the standard Blantons. NYtaster
I just finished a bottle of OGD 114, this wasn't a bad choice. This particular bottle offers a pretty good bourbon with a lot of bang for the buck!!Tim
