Many of the bottlings mentioned above were one-off, exploratory purchases, not likely to be repeated on a retiree's budget, or gifts. Over time my stable will decrease, and my Top Ten will become irrelevant. One of these days I may try to forecast what my liquor shelf will contain when it reaches steady state. I guess that would be an Everyday Ten (or less) list. Let's see, Wild Turkey 101, Evan Williams black, Jim Beam black, . . .

Dave, hope you're feeling better these days?? URIs ain't no fun.

As a fellow fixed incomer, I am looking at the same eventuality... One thing I'm trying to make my enjoyment of really good Bourbon sync with limited $ is taking good, but not overly expensive Bourbon and turn it into something really special by rebarreling. I have no idea if this will work but if it does :)

We may not be the Pappy 23 generation but we may be able to stay out of the Col Lee as well!

Stay tuned

Ken

First post and have only recently begun to experience the pleasures of bourbon.

In no particular order

Knob Creek

Makers

Fighting Cock

Buffalo Trace

I will be driving through KY & TN next month on I-65. Any great exits to get off at where I can peruse some large selections of bourbons. I stopped at one about 6 months ago, but can't remember the location.

I'm pretty new to Bourbon, but this forum has given me a lot of good leads. Here are my favorites from our limited selection here:

-Evan Williams SB

-Wild Turkey RR 101 (still widely available for $26 here)

-Old Fitzgerald BiB

-Old Grand-Dad BiB

-Old Weller Antique 107

-Elijah Craig

I need to try more to fill out that list.

Welcome to the forum... You're in good company here. There are many Wild Turkey fans hereabouts. Including me.

For some info on Conecuh Ridge, click here.

The search function will provide even more information, I believe.

Im headed down to Tucson in April to visit the in-laws. I will make a stop at Costco to pick up some Makers, it is about 1/2 price of what I pay up here in WA.

We are going to be doing a lot of driving, up to Sedona for a couple days, then donw to Kartchner Caverns, I was hoping to stop in some stores and see if I get lucky with a "dusty bottle" find! Our State run stores are not very good for that, at least in my limited experience.

Take care and welcome! :toast:

It Ain't Bourbon

The thread Question states : Top Ten American Whiskeys. Have not noticed many Jack Daniels or George Dickles or north american whiskeys such as Crown Royal and Seagrams 7. Conecuh Ridge is made in Kentucky, they just change a few rules. True its not bourbon but it sure is good whiskey.

But are any of them in your top ten? With the exception of Conecuh Ridge I have had the rest and none of them even makes my top 25 or even honerable mention. But then again, as has been said this site is kind of dedicated to the bourbon drinker....

I guess I might as well add my Top Ten Favorites:

1. Pappy 20

2. Van Blankle version of Lot B

3. GTS

4. WT Tribute

5. VWFR regular Lot B

6. WT 12

7. ORVW 15/107

8. OFBB (except 04 version)

9. VWFRR 13

10. Weller 19

Now these might be jumbled at any given time but anytime I get a chance to experience any of these it's an occasion that makes itself special.

This is not an easy list to do, but a will try. My preferred drinking proof at the last time I drank the brand is inside ( ).

It is no particular order, except that the brands marked * are the 3 I like best.

ORVW 10 Y 107 proof Bernheim version (107)

GTS spring 2005 (110-120)

GTS fall 2005 (141.2)

EC 18 Y single barrel (90)

*WT 101 old tax stripe bottling with red!!! whiskey inside (90-101)

WT Kentucky Legend old 101 proof version (don’t remember)

*ORVW old time rye early gold neck not black neck bottling (85-90)

Younger versions of ORVWFRR including 1985 vintage (15 Y) and Lottas home (13-14 Y)

Sazerac 2002 still 18 Y much better than the 2005 (85-90)

*Old St Nick winter rye (90-100)

I still got a lot of new and old-time unopened bottles at home so I am sure that I have to change this list quiet frequently.

Leif

This is the worst thread on this forum. To list your 10 best American whiskeys is almost impossible. It would have been much easier if it would have been top 20 or bourbon only. I have had a new brand however that I have to put on my list. Problem is that I can’t find anyone to take away so it has to be a top 11. It is the Forester Birthday bourbon 1995 (94). As I have understood it many members don’t like this particular version but to me it is a real cracker in the “horse kick†division alongside Stagg 131.8 and Rittenhouse 10 years. I normally don’t like bourbons which bitter wood notes but in this case I think it integrates god witch the other flavours. The nose is totally fantastic and a crystal clear 25 points in the 100 point scale for me. It is also very tasty with chilli nuts. Fanny thing is that the only other Birthday I have tasted the 13 years old 1990 fall did not have any of these bitter wood notes and it was much milder and gentler in every sense. I can understand that the rye is more obvious in a young version but I find it hard to understand how a 8 year old bourbon could have taken so much strong wood notes in that relatively short time. Only explanation I can come up with is that the barrels must have been lying

very close to the outside reality. Right under the roof or something like that. If somebody else have any explanation to this I would appreciate to here it.

As a noob I have a number of fine Bourbons to try yet, and I am looking forward to it. But thus far, I like the following:

GT Stagg

Wellers Ant 107

WL Wellers SR

Elijah Craig

Ezra Brooks

WT RR

Cheers!

The only reason your list is short is because you've only made one trip to my bunker so far...:slappin::icon_pidu:

This of course, will change....

By the way, welcome to SB.com! Another St Louis bourbonian is now here. Ya'll make him welcome please, either because of or in spite of me.....
