Top 5. Hmmm. For me this is difficult. My top two are easy:

(1) Elijah Craig 18 year old (poured some tonight. mmmmmm)

(2) Eagle Rare 10 year old

(3) Booker's

the next three are more of a challenge, as these don't stand out from the group like those two did...

(4) Blantons

(5) Elmer T. Lee

RHF (A runaway winner)

GTS 2003

Lot B

VWFRR 13 YO

WT 12 YO

Didn't have to think about the 1st 4 at all. Booker's, ETL and Pappy 20 are all in the running as well.

Come to think of it Pappy 20 may just be the smoothest and best I have ever had... I'll just have to get my hands on more of it to be totally sure.

1) 2006 William Larue Weller - Holy Crap! This may be the best of the best. My new holy grail! I'm gonna go broke buying this stuff up...

2) PVW 15

3) PVW 20

4) ORVW Lot B

5) ORVW 10/107

I'm noticing a theme here...

I have to admit that this list varies week to week, sometimes day to day.

Four Roses Single Barrel (Best Bourbon out there IMO)

Four Roses Small Batch

Old Grand Dad 100 BIB

Very Rare Old Haven Hill 10 year BIB

AAA 10 yr

========

others that may make the list from time to time.

any WT product except the 80

BT

ETL

Vintage Bourbon 17 yr

Old Bardstown 10yr

I haven't seen the 4 Roses hit the list. Is that because it is only available in KY and Overseas?

After 32 entries and 58 Bottles...the ones that rise to the top remain the same.

1) ETL (12)

2) GT Stagg (12)

3) VW 15 (11)

4) WT RR 101 (8)

5) OGD 114 (7)

Obviously these kind of lists really reflect what our favorite is today...but there is great constancy in what a lot of people like. If you look at the previous top 10 list, and if we stretched out this top 5, 8 of the bottles remain the same on both lists.

I am not a great tasting notes person, but there seems to be a great variety of taste profiles as well. You could have these 5 bottles and you should be able to please anyone.

Chuck Mick

Probably. Although many people have it.

Today I'll say (including Rye):

All time:

VWFRR 13yo

Eagle Rare 17yo (2002) - the only bottle I've had

GTS 2003 (monster bourbon)

Sazerac 18yo (2001)

Weller 19yo (someone had to love it. I did).

Every day:

WT 8yo (plan to marry it soon)

BT

Weller 7yo 107

EC 12yo

WT 12yo (my most recent bottle is a bit of a dud - cannot beilieve it :()

Currently:

Stagg fall '05

Rebel Yell (much improved over the whiskey of 2-3 years back I find)

Four Roses Single Barrel

Rittenhouse BIB

Rare Breed (current WT-03RB batch).

Alternate top 5:

McKenna Single Barrel

Booker's (or Baker's)

Virginia Gentleman 80 proof

Elmer T. Lee (very consistent)

Old Heaven Hill BIB

Gary

P.S. One of the changes in recent years is less liking (for whatever reason) for Barton bourbons and more for Heaven Hill's. Maybe Barton's are too intense for me, I do like the Kentucky Gentleman blended whiskey a lot, it seems to make the most of the good bourbon in there. I enjoyed very much a barrel sample of Ridgemont Reserve 1792 and would buy that if made available commercially.

I like how many of us preface with "currently" or "as of today". It does change alot, doesn't it? Mine are:

Pappy 20

ORVW 10 year

Buffalo Trace

William Larue Weller

Blanton's

Now I need to go to the store...

3) WT Russels Reserve (101)

4) Old Fitzgerald BIB (1970s-1980)

5) Old Rip Van Winkle 15YO (Squat Bottle)

Scotch

1) Springbank 15 YO

2) Bowmore Voyage

Rebel Yell is that good? I may have to try it again, it has been a while. The last time I had it, maybe 2 years ago or so I thought it was ok but kind of plain. I will re-visit Rebel Yell because of your post! Is it still only 80 proof?

I do recommend it. It is deeper and richer than 2 years ago. It hasn't the bite I found it had then. For the price it is an excellent bourbon, either on its own or for mixing. It used to have a thinnish taste and light astringency, that is gone now. I don't think you will be disappointed.
