ripvanfan
Sitting Here drinking some OGD 114.How familiar are you with the Illinois side? The Hy-Vee in Milan carries a pretty good selection of bourbon. It is the only place I can find Weller Antique, they also carry BT (which I see from one of your previous posts you enjoy). Last year I got the manager to order the BTAC, but I think I was just about the only one to buy any. This year no luck.Illfarmboy:There used to be a great store in East Moline that carried Van Winkle and many other great products, but that place has since closed after 30+ years in business. I was aware that the Milan HyVee had a great beer selection, but was unaware they sold Buffalo Trace or the Antiques(at one time) thanks for the info...ripvanfan
arsbadmojo
I haven't had any in 2007. But the last one I had in 2006 was Kentucky Tavern. My wife and daughter were both sick in bed, but we'd been invited to a neighborhood gathering at the house down the street. We're a pretty close knit street, so I felt sort of obligated to make an appearance, even though I wasn't planning on staying long. I had prepared some hors d'oeuvres earlier anyway when the rest of the family had still planned on going. So the hostess welcomes me in, I say hello to everyone and she shows me to the little bar. They had Maker's and Kentucky Tavern. I can hear you screaming now, but I actually reached for the Kentucky Tavern. Hehehe. I've had Maker's. I like it fine. I have some in my own collection. Kentucky Tavern was new to me. I'd seen it (always on the bottom shelf) but never tried it. I almost always try new bourbons straight up, but decided that ice might be prudent with this one. You know what? It wasn't bad at all. Very middle of the road inoffensive, mildly sweet. I ended up having another before I left. I really am starting to believe that there are no bad bourbons, only better ones.

kitzg
I'm trying to have an alcohol free January......  Is it bad that I'm already thinking what my first bourbon will be :skep: (Lot B or Rittenhouse Rye are my lead thoughts at this stage)I want to wish you the best! I need to spend 2 weeks without alcohol so I can give my weight loss a boost. I think I will start right after the American Super Bowl as I like beer with my football ;-) I've gone without for a few weeks before and with a special diet it really worked. So I wish you good luck on your goal
kitzg
Since I had wine and sparkling wine for New Years, I've not had bourbon since last week (and that bourbon was really special in Kentucky). But during the Louisville Cardinal game (Bowl game) tonight I should have bourbon! UPDATE: I started with what I had opened and a tribute to Louisville: Old Fitz. Then I went with VanWinkle Lot B -- though I had to open it I had two bottles and felt like a really good bourbon to toast the Cards! Jazzhead
A friend and I toasted to a Pappy 20 at the stroke of midnight, but my first true pour of 2007 is a bottle of JW Dant BIB, an eighties vintage bottle (distilled at DSP -2, Louisville, for whom that coded information has meaning). It has a grassy nose, that sort of reminds me of Old Pogue, and a dark cherrish, long finish. It's not a well balanced dram, but still tasty and drinkable. TNbourbon
Enjoying some '06 ER17 right now -- very orange-y, and very good. Since I find I kinda like this bourbon stuff, I may have something else tonight, too.

ggilbertva
My first of the new year was Wathen's, this evening. I didn't have anything New Years day. Now, Saturday night, I held a chili, poker and UFC Fighting get together. We started with Beer and ended the evening sampling Old Pogue, Van Winkle Lot B, Kentucky Spirit and Eagle Rare 17. gluce
Greg, I am also losing weight. I do the Atkins for short periods of time. You know on the Atkins you can drink, there are only calories, per ounce it is something like 70-100 per.No carbs-so if you don't drink too much each day maybe 2-3 ounces a day, or however you want to proportion that out you should be safe, but of course you should include this in your daily or weekly intake of calories.Good luck, it's tough to lose weight once you get past forty, I have found. Alot of work.George

Vange
Not a bourbon, but the same vein, Rittenhouse BIB 100 proof.I had a few manhattans made with some vya and orange fee's bitters and a cherry at the bottom on NYE. As they went down I kept calling them"mantinis" and they were not to be triffled with!

TomH
I needed a break from all the rum I was consuming so I did have one Jim Beam White with ginger beer for my first (and so far only) pour of bourbon this year. Drying out for a couple more days (vacationing is such hard work!), but expect will at least be ready to pour something during the Sunday chat.Tom
