Is that the new, lower proof Russell's?

At first sip I belittled it. However, recently I've not been drinking every day, and I find its lighter character acceptable to my palate. Plenty of flavor and zing, IOW.

I still wish they had retired the name, but IMO it's a worthwhile bottling, especially for new or occasional whiskey-drinkers.

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield

I've never had RR before, so I couldn't say. I think this was a 90 proof offering. What did it used to be?

Nabbed some more DC area prizes in the last few days. Mid-eighties handle bottles of Old Grand-dad and Old Fitzgerald Bonded, and a Wild Turkey Tribute as a reward for finishing my taxes.

Good grief Mike, where in D.C. did you find those puppy's? I'm only 20 mins from D.C. I would love to get my hands on another Tribute. Were there any left?

Can't believe my luck. I took the last two bottles of '06 GTS of the shelf today. They were on sale for $29.98 a piece!

That's an absolute steal. I picked up two bottles the other day for $55 a piece.

A couple of weeks ago I got a Wild Turkey Master Distillers Selection, see post#213, doubleblank got a couple about the same time.

This was such a thrill that I gave in and ordered and now have in my possesion a Wild Turkey Tradition.

From what I understand this was a Japan export. On the shrink foil on the top/neck, 06/29/94 and under that 15:28. It came in a laminated paper box.

The color of the whisky is not very dark compared to other Turkey's.

It is 101 proof, but I don't know the age, the whisky's age that is. I assume it was bottled June 29, 1994.

Any one know the age?

I attached a pic I stole off another site.

I don't know the age, Oscar, but i think you may have that Wild Turkey disease that I have for getting obscure bottlings....I have not yet found a cure, which may be a good thing

Well, I just gotta ask...

Where might one 'order' one for one's own collection?

I'm guessing it's not a commercial source, eh?

Not sure what happened with my first attempt at this reply, but it got buggered up and I deleted it.

Here's an email I got from WT when I emailed them and asked that very question:

“Dear Chris,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us about the Wild Turkey Tradition.

Please be advised, Wild Turkey Tradition was only ever sold in Duty Free, there might be some bottles available in Europe that different collectors might have owned, but it has always been a duty free product. The Tradition and the Rye are combinations of different bourbons of different ages, there is no specific recipe, the master distiller combines different bourbons of different ages until he finds the flavor he’s looking for. It is called being bottled to taste. It has been discontinued for over five years.

Once again, thank you for your interest in and continued patronage of Wild Turkey Bourbon.

Best regards,

Earline Oberholtzer

Yep, I think I got the "bird flu". But like you said, that may be a good thing.

I have 16 different WT bottles, 13 bourbon, 1 rye and 2 liqueurs.

I remember that pic you posted last year, your nest looks good to, especially the Freedom and the 17 Year Old.

Yeah I love those 2 bottles, 2 of my favourites!

I have 16 bourbon, 1 rye, Sherry signature and the 2 liquers, hoping to add a WTMDS soon (c'mon, I just need one:grin:)

Picked up a bottle of "The Fox", Virginia Gentlemen. Figured since I lived in VA I might as well give it a try. Anybody else try this bourbon and what are your thoughts?

I did get a parcel yesterday. 5 different uncut, unfiltered single barrel bourbons. HH 9,10, 14 and 15 years and BT 11 years. I did read on another thread that HH bourbons are at its best at a high proof so I look forward to taste at least a couple of these this summer.

It's been slim pickin's for dusties in the past few months, but today I was returning from Delaware and eschewed the highwy for the byway and found a few good things!

- a Weller Centeniel BHC, distilled in Louisville. This one I got greedy with and tried to wet my whistle right in the packie store lot! The cork snapped, so yours truly was a solid citizen as he drove home sipping only a Diet Coke.

- a I.W. Harper Gold Medal, with a faux tax stamp, distilled in Louisville. This looks to be from 1985 judging from the number on the bottle. Very classy looking bottle, gold and dignified in the best old school way. It's only eighty proof, aged four years, so I left a couple back on the shelf. It'll be interesting to compare this with the BHC version of Harper, which is aged 15 years. The well-aged version is superb, if almost gone. :(

- a Ten High Ten! This is the one I'm drinking tonight - very smooth, with a long finish. Quality hooch, through and through - and from a distillery I've had little exposure to. I'm grinning over this one!

Last night I snagged a lone bottle of RR 101 (now I can open one of the two I had laid back for posterity). Also picked up a bottle of ORVW 10 yr. 107 'bottle code L3846'. SW whiskey? I guess it doesn't mater I've never had either iteration of that bottling. Also picked up a bottle of BT as a going-away present for a friend.

Today was some dusty hunting. Pics are under the Collectibles forum

Today I picked up:

4 Old Forester 86 proof 1.75L - 1 pre '74 (no UPC) and the other three look to be somewhere in the '80's. They have a UPC but no Gov't warning plus they are in Liters so I put these bottles somewhere between 1981 and 1989.

1 Old Charter 7 year old 1.75L. Think it has a fake tax strip.

1 OFBB 2005

2 Rittenhouse BIB

1 Old Forester Signature 100 Proof

3 Weller Antique 107, Frankfort

1 Eagle Rare 10 Year 101, Frankfort

1 Pappy 15

Well I was not really looking to buy any bourbon today but I was just browsing a couple of places and saw a Bottle of Blanton's marked $19.99. Thought to myself that is nice but that is too good to be true. A closer look and the shelf tag also said $19.99 so I took the only 2 bottles there home with me.

Feeling kind of lucky so went to another place and got a dusty bottle of Kentucky Spirit also for $39.99. Pewter top bottle with the dual grey neck strip. The markings on the neck are pretty much gone and I can't make out the date.

I am sure these will be even more enjoyable for the prices.

After reading lots of good posts here at SB.com I went looking for some rye. I picked up the following:

Saz Jr (love that bottle design)

Wild Turkey Rye

I plan on adding those in with my JB, Rittenhouse, and OO for a full-on rye tasting. I also hope to add a Pikesville....but even though I'm in the DC area, I'm having a problem finding it right now.

The Saz Jr. is difficult to find. I came across some Pikesville and OO yesteday at Old Farm Liquor in Frederick, MD.
