After visiting the Newport Aquarium and realizing that I was in KY and could pick up some 4 Roses, I stopped at the first liquor store I saw on the way back to the interstate. Got a bottle of 4 Rose Single Barrel, but they didn't know the price of the 4 Roses Small Batch so I had to leave it behind. However sitting on the shelf just under the 4 Roses I spied a set of the new BTEC which found its way home with me too.

In honor of the Kentucky Derby, picked up my very first bottle of Rock Hill Farms along with another Blanton's. A little hurt to the wallet but it's worth it in my estimation. Outside of the Antique Collection, these are the best of the best from BT.

I found a small cache (2 bottles) of Thomas Handy Rye here in the eastern part of the state. Thanks to a cash in yesterday's Derby (though a mistake at the cashier cost me $290, don't get me started), I believe I will liberate one of the two. I also might get a bottle of the Derby Woodford to commemerate my brilliant handicapping of the race.

:woohoo:

Picked up a bottle of Bookers, Bakers and GTS. The GTS was not there a week ago but was there this time! This is my first bottle so I am looking forward to trying it out.

Hi All,

This is a newbie post. I have been drinking bourbon for only about 2 years and love it. Today's purchase: GTS. Last one on the shelf. I was also looking at Eagle Rare and Old Weller Antique 107. Definately looking forward to the GTS.

Barron.

Managed to land the new Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection for 2007. These are bourbons that are initially aged traditionally (one was 6 years and one was 10 years, I believe), and then aged several years longer in used chardonnay barrels (thus no longer technically bourbons, but interesting indeed!). They are in 375 ml bottles. I have only tasted the older one thus far.

Came across a semi-dusty bottle of Lot B today and from all indications per the store owner, it had been there a couple of years thereby qualifying it to be of S-W origin. Going to stick it away in the bunker for now. Same store had Old Charter Prop Reserve for $27.50......just could not pass it up! It is the newer BHC Frankfort bottle.......not that it matters much to me because I have already broken into it.

Picked up a bottle of Old Bourbon Hollow BIB and some mini's just to try;

Old Dickel #12

Maker's Mark

Early Times

Bulleit

I have not had MM before and found it to be very mellow, sweet on the palate and not overly complex. Not a bad pour but something I would go to if I wanted an easy going drink.

Picked up my first bottle of Booker's. Got it on sale for $35.99. Can't beat that! I might need to bunker another bottle...or six!

Found an EWSB 1991 this morning, barrel 280, at the local drugstore of all places.

They don't normally carry it but it appeared on their quick clearance shelf.

$12.35 after discount!

Needless to say I'd have taken as many as they had if they had more.

A little puzzling as to why this bottle is still around. It was released 6 years ago I assume.

Also Grabbed a Bulleit.

Haven't opened the EWSB, but I liked the Bulleit a lot. A little lighter than I expected, but very nicely balanced and pleasant, one of the smoothest I've had yet also fairly dry, a welcome addition to my collection.

Not today, but over the past 7-10 days I found and purchased the following:

W.L. Weller Centennial 10 yr (Louisville) $39

Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star, 90 proof $12

I.W. Harper 15 year (BHC) $26

Joseph Finch 15 yr with the blue box $75

I had almost a full 'free' day of dusty bottle huntin' when a bunch of work stuff got pushed back a day. My efforts were rewarded with the above finds (the last three at one store)!

The proprieter of 'that' store is also holding one bottle of Henry Clay 16 year with the red box ($75) for me, which I'll pick up this coming week.

EWSB '91, '95, '96

1982 Jim Beam white label (2 each 500ml)

Jim Beam Black 90 proof (500ml)

I.W. Harper Gold Medal 86 proof (2 each 500ml, 4 each 200ml)

Old Charter 7 year old 86 proof (2 each 500ml)

WT 8 year (1.75L)

J.T.S Brown

Old Forester BIB (1.75L)

Henry McKenna BIB bottled 1994 (2 each 750ml)

Most of the 500ml bottles all have tax stamps (no fakes)...what a haul.....(thanks to Scratchline for the Wild Turkeys')

While vacationing in Florida this past week I found the following:

Jeffersons Reserve 15yr.

Eagle Rare 101,1L( New Orleans)

Very Special Old Fitzgerald 12yr BHC (Louisville)

Old Charter Prop. Reserve BHC (Louisville)

W.L. Weller Centennial BHC (Louisville)

Benchmark Single barrel 94 proof

Quite a good find on vacation. While out hunting, I also saw some awful high prices. Here are some examples:

Buffalo Trace 750-43.99

Saz jr. rye-39.99

ORVW 10/90-39.99

ORVW 10/107-49.99

Pappy 15-79.99

Pappy 20-119.99

It seems that Bulleit bourbon also suffers from price gouging as it was up to 30.00 for a 750. I bought the discontinued bottles and ran!

.....Buffalo Trace 750-43.99......

Ouch!! That's fully 20 dollars (83%) more than I usually pay!

Here in Ohio, Buffalo Trace is 21.00 a bottle including the tax. I could get a 1.75 of Eagle Rare 10 for 45.00!

Thought I'd go ahead and put this up since I'd never seen it before. Got a couple of old strip bottles of Fleischmann's Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. These date from around 1980 and are 86 proof. Owensboro, Kentucky, so I assume they are Medley whiskey. $8.29 a pop.

Grabbed a bottle of 95 EWSB and a bottle of ER 10 year to compare with the 17 year I found last week. Then, the little monster inside of me took over and grabbed the last bottle of Blanton's on the shelf.

I think I'll kick that little shit's arse when I see him again, damn impulse buy and payed way more than I should have. Oh well. :)

Picked up a '97 EW SB yesterday and also saw and purchased a 1.75l bottle of Old Forester 80 proof. I've never seen this in NYC before but I've read a lot about it on the SB site.

I went out in the yard when I got home and picked some mint and made some Juleps and they came really nice! I paid $26. for the OF, which I think is a very high price compared to what is likely to be paid in the heartland, but it is still a good value to me.

Pretty good stuff, a bit undistinguished straight, but the flavor and heat held up real well against the ice and mint. Until it's gone, this is my Julep bottle! Tom V
