This is truley fine bourbon.

It rivals my favorite and I now want to do a side by side tasting with Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit.

Okay, here's my rarest DC find. Pepper BIB. Missing the strip but with a bottle date of '59.

I got bottles of Van Winkle lot B and Michters 10yr. single barrel rye on a trip to Pa. earlier in the week. I anyone is interested, Pa. is running a sale on the Michters rye this month, 44.99+tx. Other places I have seen it for up to 76.00 a bottle!

When we did our recent Metro DC tasting event, Stoopsie brought the same bottle for us to try. It had a label on the back with someones name...mine does not have a label so not sure who it was personalized for.

My 21st wedding anniversary is coming up and I made my wife aware that this bottle could be purchased....well, it came in the mail yesterday. She's wonderful and puts up with my silly bourbon hobby....or as she puts it "you're a bourbon dork". She'll get a nice piece of jewerly.....I get a 48 year old bottle of wonderful bourbon.

Funny story:

Last night I bought a bottle of Evan Williams 1995 in a gift box (dusty as hell, the owner gave me 10% off) with drinking glass, cost me 23 bucks. Walking home, the bag split at the bottom and the box fell to the street spilling sweet smelling bourbon every where....I almost cried. Anyhow, I walked back and told the owner what happened and he gave me another dusty box of EW (the last one!). Whew, that made my night.

I poured a glass when I got home and was rewarded with a very, very nice drink. This stuff is pretty damn good!

Replaced a finished bottle of Hirsch 16. Grabbed the last two on the shelf... it's getting much harder to find this around anymore.

Old Fitz Prime 90 proof early 80's (S-W)

Old Grandad late 70's early 80's.

I'm not sure of the dates. Will have to do some research on the UPC to see if I can narrow it down. BTW, no 2 digit date on the bottom of the bottle.

There was an FET increase in the mid-80s and I think that is when Old Fitz prime, and other brands, cut their proof to 80. Since the FET is proof-based, the proof cut was a way to minimize the tax's impact on prices.

The FET on distilled spirits was raised in October 1985 from $10.50 to $12.50 per proof gallon. It was raised to $13.50 effective January 1, 1991. The 1985 hike was an especially big deal since it was the first increase since 1951.

Visiting Nashville and picked up a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Spring 2003. I'm enjoying it very much, it has a very rich taste, with a lot of separate notes in it.
