tdelling
Does anyone know anything about Wild Turkey 17 YO?I've heard rumors that it's being released in limited amounts in Japan.I'm not usually one to go chasing after the crazy Japan-only bottlings, but Wild Turkey puts out such great stuff... Rare Breed, KentuckySpirit, Russell's Reserve, 101...I can personally say that I've never had a bourbon that I didn't really and truly enjoy from WT, so their track record makes me think that the 17YO mightbe really great.Tim
Guest **DONOTDELETE**
Dammitalltohell Tim Dellinger for the first time on this forum you just damn well might be right!!Yes Malt Advocate reported such. Five thousand bottles of seventeen year old Wild Turkey and all going to Japan. Price per bottle = Fifteen Thousand Yen or $125 to us regular folk.Kinda makes ya want to buy yer own still - Don't it???Linn SpencerHave Shotglass. Will Travel. cowdery
Normally I wouldn't be interested in any 17-year-old bourbon, but a recent bottle of Elijah Craig Single Barrel has opened my eyes to the possibilities. I suspect the reason for this Japan-only decision is that they have only a very limited amount of suitable whiskey available and they know the Japanese will eagerly pay $125 a bottle for it. (That actually sounds a little cheap given what I know about bourbon prices in Japan.) I don't think it would be as easy to sell in the U.S.--Chuck Cowdery
Guest **DONOTDELETE**
Chuck that's an intriguing line of thought. Just what prices do bourbons fetch in Japan? Say the regular eight year old Turkey 101, or Blanton's, Knob Creek?Linn SpencerHave Shotglass. Will Travel.
cowdery
I don't have data, just a memory that when people have told me prices, it seemed like a lot.--Chuck Cowdery
koji
Hello everybody at this site,my name is koji and I'm writing here for the first time from Japan to answer some of the question that were asked. As for the price of bourbons(well any whiskey)Yes it is expensive!Anythings expensive in my country anyways.Like the prices that Linn asked,8y old 101 WT 750ml is $18,Blanton 93P is $25,Knob Creek is $28.This price is calculated by the latest rate, and is onlyan average figure. How are these prices?Yes about the 17y old WT.The price in $ will be around $100 ata local shop. The taste. With my poor english vocabs it is hard toexplain.I think it is a beatiful bourbon, maybe too smooth.I kind of like Rare Breed or Russel's Reserve more myself for whatI pay.Ihope I can bring a Bottle to this years festival if I can make it there.kojiPlease skip all my mistakes I'll try my best. jbutler
Hello Koji, and welcome. It's good to hear from a bourbon drinker in Japan.I must ask; did you make a mistake while typing, or is Blanton's really $25 US over there?Cheers,Jim ButlerStraightbourbon.com
ratcheer
Thanks for the info.Actually, the prices you stated are quite a bit less than what I pay in the state of Alabama, USA. Here, WT 101 is $24, Blanton's is $45, and Knob Creek is $32.So, maybe thisng in Japan aren't as expensive as you think.Tim
koji
Hello, everybody.I have always been reading this forum, and never thought I would be writing myself. Thanks for your reply. It's not a WT 17y discussion but since asked about prices I will list some up.I myself is interested in US prices.Blanton's 93p(White Label)3000yen~4000yenBlanton's Gold (103p)5000yen~Blanton's Silver Label 3500yen~4000yenBlanton's Special Reserve(Green) 2500yen~3000yenBlanton's Black Label(Japan only?) 2500yen~3000yenA doller right now is 125~126yen ,you could get an idea from that.10years ago Blanton Black or White cost over$100,thanks to theinporters it has gotten much cheaper now.koji
cowdery
The rate today is about 132 yen to the dollar. That makes 2500 yen about $18.92, 3000 yen about $22.70 and 5000 yen about $37.84. The converter is at We'>--Chuck Cowdery
Ekki
Hi Koji, and first of all welcome.Just as a matter of interest, there are four different Blantons available over here (Germany), at least as far as I know.Blanton's 'Special Reserve' (80 proof) - $26Blanton's 'Single Barrel' (93 proof) - $33Blanton's 'Gold Edition' (103 proof) - $62 (!)Blanton's 'Silver Edition' (98 proof) - $66 (!!)To be honest I never tried Blanton's but Linn (Howdy man ! How are you ?) told me that it has the same recipe as one of my favorites, Elmer T.Lee which is, according to Linn 'just a tad bit sweeter with a slightly more 'lazy' finish'. And since 'lazy finish' is my second name I was never tempted to try one of these expensive 'precious metal' editions.Btw, a bottle of Elmer T.Lee Single Barrel 90 proof costs about $30 over here.Best,Ekki
bobbyc
I drew my pay last week and set about to squander a bit in the form of a bottle of Wild Turkey 12YO . I need to back it up with another before I try it ,(what discipline!) They only had 2 left I didn't ask if more was on the way. I'm at a loss however, about what to do this week, Let's see...The Eagle Rare and Sazerac 17 and 18 are back , get the Old Charter classic 90 as per Linn and Cowdery, load up on Dickle before it all disappears. I still need a 10year Bookers , Oh yes the McKenna in the little jug they are still plentiful here , Pappy 20 the new issue ...did I say I am getting thristy? So many choices !Bobby Cox
Guest **DONOTDELETE**
Hi Ekki!I'm doin' fine. Thanks for asking. I've been teaching myself to play piano, and that's taking up a lot of my free time. The prices you're paying for Elmer T. Lee and the regular 93 proof Blanton's are just about the same as I pay, so I'd say you're getting a good deal. There are some collectors on this forum that would just love to have those 'precious metals' versions of Blanton's.Linn SpencerHave Shotglass. Guest **DONOTDELETE**
Bobby I've been told by the folks at Wild Turkey that all of the twelve year old stuff would all be going to Japan, but I wonder if it will continue to be available in Kentucky. Have you noticed any stores where it has simply disappeared never to be restocked?Linn SpencerHave Shotglass. Will Travel.
bobbyc
Linn, I will be going to Liquor Outlet tomorrow I'm going to ask about it . When they first stocked the 12YO they were loaded for bear there was a case or 2 on hand , and like I said I pulled 1 bottle last week and there were 2 left I will see if they have replenished or not. Actually the 12 YO didn't even make it to most stores that I frequent .It would always have been available for special order. Some of these guys may have been put off by the price. It goes for $48.00 here. This may not be a fair comparison but I had a hard time walking by 3 bottles of Elijah Craig 12 to pick up the 1 bottle of turkey! I don't mean any thing bad by that at all , Wild Turkey does a fine job in my book.Bobby Cox
ratcheer
Bobby, Wild Turkey and Elijah Craig are two of my favorites, too. Rare Breed is my most favorite and EC 12-yr is certainly in my top ten. I love regular WT 101, as well.Have a great time with your WT 12-yr!Tim

ratcheer
I misstated the price for Wild Turkey 101. It is $19, not $24. I don't know what I was thinking about, unless it was the 1.0 L price, but that is $26. So, it must have just been a brain fart.Tim
bobbyc
I guess everyone on this site is really in the know , but I will post this anyway. If you go to Wild Turkey's web page they have a little 15 question test you fill out and they will send you a Rare Breed baseball cap! If you dont know the answers they will refer you to a series of articles that you can read and find the answers. I guess if I wanted to really be helpful I could have posted the answers. Marvin
Tim - Just got back on the internet and read all the posts. As stated in the post it all went to Japan. People have different opinions on what it sells for and so do I. I have one bottle and paid dearly for it, but it was still cheaper than a round-trip ticket to Japan! Anyone wanting to secure a bottle - don't be surprised when you do find it - it will be about $350 to $500, and this is not BS. But then again, we only live once!
