HP 18, Bowmore 17, and now back to finish my bottle of HP18.

A cheap dram tonight: William Grant's Ale Cask. Quite different from the bottle I had a year ago. Less creamy and sweet. Much bigger spice with a smoldering peat flavour that I don't remember in the previous bottle. A pretty decent dram, though the grain gives it a fair bite.

Having some Arran Malt Tokaji Aszu finish at full strength. Wow...starts off syrupy-sweet, and then explodes in the mouth with a burst of intense spice and more tropical fruit. Fruity sweetness persists in the finish with an oaky edge.

My God, Alberta Premium 25yr is smooth as water after the cask-strength Arran Malt! I could chug this right from the bottle, though I'd probably end up in the hospital.

Tonight it's Clynelish 14, Talisker 10, and now Ardberg 10.

To my palate it is pure velvet. The taste is vanilla laced with caramel and chocolate, with a hard spicy edge of rye and oak. Beautiful, well-integrated flavours. Smooth with a subtle sweetness. A different kind of Canadian whisky, and an unprecedented value. Jim Murray rated this the Best Canadian Whisky in his 2008 Whisky Bible, or so I hear.

Now I'm ending the night with a Talisker 18.

Right now I am enjoying a bottle of McClellands LowLand Single Malt and liking it very much the Pa state stores just like Bourbon do not have near enough good Scotchs but I had never had this one it was on sale and I find it to be Fresh to the Palate with a sort of Gingery flavor and a very smooth Dry Gingery finish it is a nice buy for the Price and I will get more of this when it is gone!

Heard a lot about this one. Should be quite different than the Balvenie Doublewood, Balvenie 21 yo Portwood and Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or that I have. Looking forward to this one and just enjoying the journey.

A great introduction to the smoky coastal style. I take it you bought the 10 year old? It's fantastic stuff.

Having a pre-dinner dram of Glenkinchie 1992 Distillers Edition. Fabulous and unique.

I concur with Megawatt, one of my favorites and on my shelf as well.... the number of scotch offerings i have open are beginning to rival my bourbon ones.... but they don't come close to my bunkered bourbons (approx 30+ bottles). I find Scotch easier to come by than good bourbon so I stock up like crazy on Van Winkle etc...

Last night, I threw a surprise birthday party for my wife at a local French restaurant....it went well...$$ of course. My brother in law and I perused the after dinner drink selection...they had a nice collection of Scotch (didn't see any bourbon) so we selected something new for us...Macallan Cask Strength.

It was very enjoyable....it had the hit of sherry that Macallan is famous for and was a very nice pour.

An unusual review...but pretty much on the mark.

I wish I knew someone who liked it in my area about two years ago. I bought a bottle and didn't care for it at all. Way too much sherry. I ended up dumping it. It would have only served as a reminder to the wife how much I spent on something I didn't drink. I actually bought it because I thought the sherry influence would be comparable to what I had experienced from Irish whiskeys. Boy, somehow it was totally different, sharp, like when you burp up in your mouth. I hope I didn't gross anyone out with that description.
