I had my first Talisker 25 a couple of weeks ago, alongside a Bowmore 25. Talisker killed that puny Bowmore!

Yesterday I consoled myself after the Tigers loss with some Ardbeg Corryvreckan. After having mostly bourbon in the last 2 weeks, the Ardbeg slapped me silly but I loved it. However, I was kind of distracted by a sweet barley taste I pick up every other time I have Ardbeg. It tastes like an immature spirit. I know the Corry is a vatting with some young spirit, but I don't think it's that because I also get it in the standard 10 yr. Anyone else pick up on this?

Switched gears and had some wonderful Irishman Single Malt Whiskey, a beautiful 10 year old that spent time in bourbon and sherry casks. Seek it out!

Could be - the guy in charge of Ardbeg and Glenmorangie offerings, Bill Lumsden, is open about being obsessed with wood type and vatting recipes. I don't think he'd be shy about tinkering with the standard expressions, or as close to standard as Ardbeg is capable of, considering how irregular their offerings are made available. I also heard the Alligator is sweet.

I think Ardbeg has become a bit more sweet over the last few years. I thought it might just be me, but maybe they've changed something?

Well, I tried some Drambuie at a friend's recommendation. Gah! I may try it next time I need cough syrup. Did not like!

I also had recent exposure to Cointreau and did not like it either. I guess I'm just not a liqueur type of person.

Im can't drink Drambuie either. I have to be drinking a Rusty Nail... otherwise, it's too sweet for me.

I'm with you, Mark. I really wanted to like Drambuie but just couldn't get into it.

I agree on the dislike of Drambuie, but I always have Cointreau on hand simply for margaritas. Although I can never imagine anyone drinking them straight-up, for me, almost all cordials and liquer's are relegated to cocktail mixing duties.

I'm with you, Mark. I really wanted to like Drambuie but just couldn't get into it.

My problem is I don't like mixing what I drink. Unless it's spiking some Evan Williams eggnog, that is :cool:. I can't really think of anything I'd like to mix Drambuie with to make it palatable. Especially when I could spend my drinking time with the stuff I really like straight up.

Sadly, I have a similar aversion to Drambuie and Cointreau by themselves. The taste didn't put me off but the high concentration of sugar just made it too much to get through. I finished the Cointreau by filtering it through margaritas and it worked well for that. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out what to do with the Drambuie so it was used to sanitize the bathroom drain. A little expensive for a sanitizer but the bathroom smelled good for the first time in a long time.

It sounds too late, but my suggestion would be to cut it 50/50 with any good Scotch whisky or malt. It cuts the sugar in half but preserves the essential taste. You can increase the whisky in the mix to get the taste you like. Indeed there is a cocktail like this, I can't remember the name, Rusty Nail maybe.

Last night while watching the Tiger game, had a little Lagavulin, Ardbeg 10 yr, Ardbeg Ugi and Ardbeg Corry. All four were great and each was different but overall gave the nod to the Corry.

Just opened a bottle of Jameson Special Reserve 12 y.o. and having a pour. Trying to decide what will be pour #2, might be another Jameson.

Really enjoying a Springbank 12 year single cask aged exclusively in an oloroso sherry butt. Tee-hee, butt! 4 of 5 times I don't like this bottle because the sherry is way, way too much, but today I'm loving the yummy Springbank brine punched up with the woodiness and filmy sherry notes.

I agree, the 12 year old sherry cask was a little much for me but sometimes it hit the spot.

I'm enjoying some good ol' Glenfiddich 12.

Have you had any of the others in the line? I haven't but I would like to try the one aged in bourbon barrels. I'm really looking forward to getting this one:
