dean_martin
Wow. Those are great prices! Black Bush here in Chicagoland tends to be in $28-$32 range, though I did buy a few gift packs at Christmas time that were on sale for $25 which was extraordinarily good. Bushmills 10 is currently selling at Binny's for $46, while my neighborhood store has it for $43. I don't ever recall seeing it sell for much less and certainly never under $40, at least at the stores I routinely visit. Have you had them both? If not, it would be nice to pick them up at those prices and do a little head-to-head taste testing.Haven't had either (or any Irish Whisky). I'm anxious to give Irish a try and wasn't sure whether I wanted to start with the obligatory Jameson or something else. I've read a lot of what folks have been posting and decided on Black Bush until the recent mention of Bushmills 10. I'm intrigued with Red Breast, but at its price here ($44), I would rather pick up a favorite bourbon. So now I have two (BB or BM 10) to decide between as my initiation into Irish or I'll get both if that damn state tax refund ever comes in. ebo
I actually prefer Jameson 12 over Black Bush... and Tullamore Dew 12 over both of them.
unclebunk
Opened a bottle of Redbreast last night and had a couple of stiff pours. I really love this whiskey and can't say enough about its flavor and aroma. I could crawl into my Glencairn glass just to get a better whiff of this stuff. Worth every penny that I paid for it! JamesW
Tonight it was Talisker 10 and then some Bowmore 17.
Megawatt
How does Bowmore 17 compare to their 12 year old? I'm not a big fan of the 12; just something about the flavour that doesn't sit well.

I'm not a big fan of the 12; just something about the flavour that doesn't sit well.I don't recall that I've had the 12 yr. I find that the Bowmore 17 is somewhat unique in profile to other Islays in that there seems to be this fruitiness intermingled with the smoke and peat that I can't quite put my finger on (maybe that's the flavor you didn't care for?). Each time I pour this dram it is that distinct flavor that draws my attention and pushes the others aside.
ILLfarmboy
I started out with a pre-supper drink of JW Black, now I'm enjoying a glass of HP 12.
ggilbertva
Bypassed the bourbon tonight and went with a Tomatin which I think is 12 years old. Not sure as this was a bottle pulled from the barrel at the Whiskey Shop.
JamesW
Started with Clynelish 14 and now on to some Ardberg Uigeadail. The Uigedail is really fantastic. It cut right through the taste-bud fog caused by a bad cold.
ggilbertva
Sometimes when you dig through the open or closed bunker you pull a bottle from the back and say "oh! I forgot I had that". I'm sippin on a Edradour SFTC 11 year Marsala finish. It's probably been at least a year or more since I enjoyed this little treasure....forgot how good it was. ggilbertva
A friend shared some of his newly acquired Amrut Fusion this evening. He wouldn't tell me what it was at first. The nose had a small dose of iodine and a larger dose of honey. The nose has some pot still qualities to it so I guessed Irish, then Scottish and then Indian. I was unaware a whiskey that good was coming from India.

To me, there were qualities of both irish and scottish with caused some confusion when nosing and sipping.
unclebunk
Hit the Ardbeg 10 pretty good last night, along with a few pints of Guinness, while watching the Blackhawks maul the Canucks. Loads of fun!
ggilbertva
I was very fortunate to acquire a bottle of Bushmills Millennium (25 yrs in oak) today. I conducted a bourbon tasting and on attendee brought along a bottle of Bushmills Millennium and a bottle of Paddy's Irish. She gifted both to me by the end of the evening. This Bushmills is my new favorite Irish Whiskey hands down!
