Megawatt
Just picked up the Bowmore 10 Tempest 112 proof. Initial nose: Alcohol. After a few minutes opening up it has turned to toasted apple pie with cinnamon. Also getting some fresh tobacco shop smells.Taste: Initial heat slowly turning into smooth fruit (green apples, peaches, and maybe a bit of melon) with surprisingly mellow peat and smoke (I like/want peat and smoke!).Finish: Somewhat short to medium in length sweetness, with lasting heat as it departs.A nice dram with a hint of that curious fruitiness that I always appreciate from Bowmore (specifically as found in the 17 yr). Not quite what I was expecting but I find myself wanting more now that my glass has emptied.I went to buy this yesterday but they couldn't find it in the store. Sounds like good stuff. Apparently it goes for $100 in some parts of the US.

Just be sure to really give it time to open up before consuming or you'll be searching for the flavor in all that heat.Tonight I'm starting with some Chivas 12 and plan to try and finish off a dwindling Caol Ila 12. Caol Ila 12. One of my favorites. I'm never too long without a bottle of this.

Megawatt
Finishing up a bottle of Tangle Ridge. No kidding. You can't even get that bottle in Ontario. How is it? I'm working on a glass of Springbank 12 year old cask strength.
Megawatt
Just getting into my new bottle of Bowmore Tempest. This is my style of Islay whisky.
Megawatt
Had another pour from the Tempest and it has really developed into a fine dram. This one really needs time to open up. Have since moved on to another cask strength, Lagavulin 12. Well I didn't really have much place else to go from there tonight  I agree that some time in the glass, and a bit of water, goes a long way for this one. I don't get so much fruit (some lemon, perhaps), but more of a vanilla sweetness and also fresh laundry. Sounds weird, but hey, I love that smell . Brisko
A little Talisker 10 to follow a very interesting glass of New Glarus Smoked Rye Ale (see the beer thread): I think it would have been better matched to an old-fashioned highlander like Ardmore or Springbank 10 but I have neither at the moment. JamesW
First taste of Bruichladdich Port Charlotte An Turas Mor. Hasn't opened up quite yet but I'm too impatient to wait. Initial tasting notes are...Nose is somewhat sweet with hints of ginger, vanilla, and seaweed. It has a very smooth entry, almost non-existent with an immediate explosion on the back palate of dried peat and a honeyed spice sea breeze. The finish is medium length with peat giving way to some heat and lingering pepper.Very nice so far!

Lost Pollito
Some 11 year old Tamdhu tonight. Looks nice and sherried.
roostercogburn
First pour of the Ardbeg Uigeadail. Fantastic stuff! Heavy smoke (to be expected from an Ardbeg) but with a delicate touch of sherry sweetness. Nothing is overdone, and the contrasting notes are balanced perfectly. I can definitely see the appeal of this expression.

It's a shame they aren't making it anymore.

The next one I want to pick up is the Hibiki 12 year. Also think about trying Yoichi 10 year old. It is much different than Yamazaki. I'd be hard-pressed to say which I enjoyed more. JamesW
Enjoying my first pour from Amrut Fusion. Very nice so far. I have a bad cold (So I probably should have waited to open it) but right now the finish sort of reminds me of a peatier, smokier, fuller flavored Glenlivet Nadurra. I may take all this back later though.Cheers!
smokinjoe
With all of the talk on Canadian Whiskies, lately, I decided to pull out a couple of dusty Canadian Clubs that I've picked up over the years. CC 100 proof and CC Classic 12 year c. late '80's. The 12 year is wonderfully caramelly and mapley. Yummy.Hey Boss, may I offer for consideration that a "Canadian Whiskey" section be added to the site as a permanent fixture?
