Thanks to you all and especially Attila for turning me on to rakuten and kawachiya ( http://item.rakuten.co.jp/kawachi/c/ ), I not only have knowledge of what is of quality and available in Japan, I also now have access. (Miyazaki is a paradise, just not a whiskey paradise, too few choices.) Within minutes of linking to that site, I started forming a whiskey club, by the end of the day we had 7 members. Some of our first choices were sold out, but this is the list of what should arrive tomorrow evening. (They send 12 bottles per shipment for about $7.50)

Everybody pays 750 over their order, a little goes for shipping the rest goes for a shared bottle in the next order as chosen by the winner of our lottery. We have about 4500 to spend on the share-bottle for next month's order.

Any suggestions for next month's order are appreciated. Thanks, folks!!!

I have never heard of Green Spot before.

Green Spot is from Mitchell & Sons in Dublin. Used to be available only in their shop. Seems like now you might be able to get it in a few other specialty places (mainly UK?) but it's not many. So, no, it's not a Japan only thing but it is not widely available. I had contacted them years ago and they would ship it within Europe but wouldn't to the US. I had to get mine via my brother-in-law from the shop in Dublin. Also, there used to be other "Spots" available -Blue, White, etc. - but I am not sure if they still do those or not.

I was under the impression that Green Spot was just a younger Redbreast?

Here's something about Green Spot:

That's all I know, so far...

The bottle of Green Spot was for an election wager: me v.s. a Welsh friend. We'll crack it on Nov 5 (our time). If Obama wins the popular vote, I win and he pays for it. Otherwise, I pay. We intend to put a significant dent in it while watching the returns.

The Saint Nick is exported at least to Europe. I've read about it on this board somewhere. I cracked the St. Nick Winter version last night. I'm not good at describing, but I did a back to back comparison with WT Rye. The Saint Nick is somewhat darker in color. The tastes of the two are very similar, but the St. Nick has a somewhat stronger and more complex flavor, less "alcohol" taste, but still with a nice edge. I prefered it to the Wild Turkey Rye, but not by much. My wife (the other sampler) agreed.
