View Full Version : What's your Midnight Pour??

12-29-2008, 20:21
Ok I know I'm a couple days early but, I think we have a few of us that are thinking ahead to Midnight Wed/Thur and the welcoming of 2009!

So when the ball drops (in NY's Time Square) not at your house, let's keep it clean!

What will you bring in 2009 with?

I will be having some Eagle Rare 101! Seems to be my goto lately! Followed by a pour of some 2008 Stagg!

Happy New Year since I will not see you guys!

what ever the Cougs (Jason) man wants... along with smoked turkey and pulled pork... it will be a feast..

Last summer we were up in Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula where there are a lot of wineries.
My favorite being L. Mawby.
I still have a bottle of Blanc de Blanc sparkling we got from there.
We'll take that to a party we are going to for midnight.

Haven't decided for sure yet but I'm leaning towards PVW 23 SB.

12-30-2008, 07:37
I'll be having a Coke as I will be at work :hot: But happy New Year to everyone have fun and drink one for me.

12-30-2008, 07:42
Any Stagg is a very good midnight pour.

12-30-2008, 07:44
Whatever I happen to pick out of my cabinet I guess. We normally lay low on NYE since it has turned in to amateur night around here. Probably a cheap dinner out and then a movie at home.

12-30-2008, 07:57
I'll be working until midnight so mine will be a little late. I'll probably just draw a name out of the hat. Wish me luck that I don't come across one of those check points. I'm in no danger of going to jail, I just don't like being hassled!

I will be sure to do that Paul! Did you get any cool new stuff for Christmas? Pets etc.?

We are invited to a very nice party, but it is in an area where the police are known to be fairly aggressive at catching offenders. So, while I may have a couple of drinks early on (say, 8 to 9 PM or so), I will probably not be having anything around midnight. Oh, well.

12-30-2008, 13:02
When I get home at 2-3 AM, it will be after a long night of watching everyone else get imbibe way too much. I will be sitting it out all the way. Working one of those one price hotel parties, amateur night to be sure.

12-30-2008, 14:41
Something in the Wild Turkey family, I imagine. We'll be at the in-laws, and my pops-in-law has some RR (alas, it is the 90) and some 101. He is a WT diehard (the only bourbons he drinks, in fact). Or perhaps I'll bring along some RB.

12-30-2008, 14:54
" Amateur night" is about right.

I don't want to be worried about being hit by some idiot who doesn't know his limit or being stopped by a cop.

We'll be staying home.

My wife's 40th birthday is Saturday. So, instead of having a party on new year's eve where our guests will be invited to crash here, as we sometimes do, we'll have her birthday party on the third and do likewise.

12-30-2008, 17:43
Who knows what bottle I'll be reaching for, I probably won't open anything new since I already have a bunch open, I lean towards finishing a Saz18 at the moment though. Keeping with tradition I'll start drinking champagne a little before 12, finish a little after, and then move to whiskey; this year I got a 1/2 bottle of Krug Grand Cuvee Brut.

12-30-2008, 18:23
unless the bank account allows (if so, i'll grab a Stagg for the midnight hour!), i'll pop the cork on this belgian Angelique

For us on the birth of 2009, it's going to be Old Fo' Birthday Bourbon, barreled in 1993 and bottled in 2006. Jeez I love that.

Cheers to all!

Not sure yet. I'll post later. Probably some stuff from the BTAC. Trying to finish off a bottle of WR now. Joe

I have decided to ring in the new year with a pour of GTS '08. I am going through this bottle quick. Good thing I have another one stashed away. :)

2007 WLW at this point. Two hours to go! Joe

Lot B has been my first bourbon of the year for several years now. It remains a great choice.

I didn't have an open bottle and not wanting to raid the bunker, I made a purchase today. All that talk about this years version being outstanding, well, I agree. Although...

Recently, I've been drinking GTS08 the taste buds need recalibration.

It's past midnight. Besides beer, I opened an '03 Eagle Rare 101 and then had some Champagne. Now it's bedtime.

12-31-2008, 23:57
I've been drinking Kir Royales all night (champagne & chambord) and before bed a couple of Sam Adams Winter Ale...start off the New Year in style. Happy New Year everyone!

Finished 2008 and started 2009 with 2007 GTS. Happy New Year! Joe

Sipping Sam Houston and dreaming of the return of the Republic of Texas. This bourbon is cognac like.

01-01-2009, 06:51
I did not quite make it to midnight, but a good friend shared some 08 Eagle Rare 17. That is some good stuff. It did not blow my socks off like GTS did, but excellent none the less.

I will be sure to do that Paul! Did you get any cool new stuff for Christmas? Pets etc.?

Nothing new that slithers got several bottles of bourbon though.

Went north of the border for most of the evening with Crown Royal before turning back south to start the new year with PVW15. Hopefully, the rest of the year will be as smooth and enjoyable.

Did everyone get home OK last night?

01-01-2009, 11:48
i got home before most folks, i think....nice dinner with the in-laws...filet mignon and sam adams...then home to this perplexingly awful/wondeful, awfully wonderful 1792....then a few traditional egg nogs (trader joe's excellent version) with Jim Beam RYE in the mix. worked out well. i slept great and woke up to, yes, a pour of 1792...wonderful THIS time around... ...then fell asleep around 11pm LAST YEAR

03-11-2009, 21:05

Jim Beam black with a little Diet Coke.

It all depends on my location at midnight.

If I'm at a party, it's whatever fifth I brought with me.

If I'm at home, something that lingers before I try to fall asleep. I'll usually watch anywhere from 30 - 2 hours worth of a movie or TV before falling asleep. In that case, it's something strong like some Stagg or Handy.

03-15-2009, 13:56
In the midnight hour it would have to be Rebel Yell.
