Hello to all. First allow me to make a confession, I am now 50 years old and until about a two years ago I had never had Bourbon or Tennessee Whiskey. I had always been a Scotch, Gin or Beer guy. The way I got started with Bourbon was through my younger brother and quiet by accident. My brother had a large collection liquor minatures that he collected over very many years. He decided to trash it (he then had a young teenager and a little one). I thought it a waste so volunteered to take it off his hands. I tried a few different Bourbons and liked them and was hooked. I haven't had a Scotch in about two years. I fine myself rather partial to Knob Creek (it's the bottle I'm working on now). But I will continue to experiment. I look forward to learning from all.

Welcome Dallas. I discovered bourbon late it the game as well. Let me modify an old Chinese proverb:

"The best time be become a bourbon drinker is 20 years ago. The second best time is today."

Anyway, this is a good place. Can you explain 'The Big Red1"?

First off, welcome to SB Dallas. If you're looking for help and info about bourbon, this is the place to be. Like you and Blitz, I also got interested in bourbon late in the game. I really got hooked a couple of years ago when I was 50, and joined SB last year. This place is great. I hope you have as good a time as I do.

Can you explain 'The Big Red1"?

I hate to answer for Dallas, but The Big Red 1, is the 1st Infantry Division:893drillsergeant-th

Again Dallas, welcome and let the fun begin. Joe

Welcome to the board Dallas1; I look forward to your contributions on the board.

Can you explain 'The Big Red1"?

The "Big Red One" is the oldest continuously serving division in the US Army.

Check out their history here http://www.1id.army.mil/bigredone/history.aspx

Thanks all, The Big Red 1 quote is a VERY unofficial repsonse to the official NO Mission to Difficult, No Sacrifice to Great, Duty First division motto. I was with the Division in the very early 1980's.
