View Full Version : Where in the world is Jim Beam?
Where in the world is Jim Beam? It's in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, according to a new campaign by the Kentucky Department of Tourism. I'm splitting hairs, I know. Shepherdsville is the closest town of any size to the distillery. It's only about 7 miles away. And they're both in Bullit County. But the reality is that the distillery is linked to Bardstown, which is admittedly 25 miles away in the other direction. Anyway, I just thought it was funny, as I've never seen Beam associated with Shepherdsville before.
Describing the Beam distillery as a "world-class cultural destination" is a bit of a grin too.
That is odd. Why not just keep it listed as in Clermont? I guess the "Let's Make it Seem Like Shepherdsville Has Something Going For It" committee finally made their hard work pay off.
I am not real familar with KY .... look at the map on thebourbonreview.com web site. Is this waht you are talking about or are they even further off?
Shepherdsville is only about 7 miles north of Clermont. It's the next exit north off I-65. There's a big cluster of hotels and restaurants there at the exit (there's nothing at Clermont) as well as an official Commonwealth of Kentucky Welcome Center. In that sense, I get it.
I can't see booking a "cultural" getaway, Bourbon or otherwise in Shepherdsville over, say Bardstown.
It might have something to do with currying the favor of the town fathers of Shepherdsville ... because they are extending waste water systems to Beam so they can close their treatment plant to make way for a new ... and sorely needed visitor center. .. I think they are also considering major building zone changes and road improvements along the corridor from I-65 to the Beam Clermont entrance.
