Hello Everyone,

I've been a lurker for awhile and decided it was time to register and introduce myself. I'm Don from northeast Ohio, and have been a long time Maker's Mark fan. Prior to finding Maker's Mark, I was mostly a Jim Beam drinker. Thanks to the information on this site I've starting branching out a bit and am just starting to discover some of the great bourbons out there. So far, two that I've enjoyed recently were the W. L. Weller SR, and Elijah Craig 12.

Besides bourbon, I also enjoy homebrewing beer, cigars, and playing poker.

I've noticed quite a few others here are also from Ohio and was wondering where do you go to get bourbons not sold in the state (i.e. Van Winkles, etc)? I've browsed Binny's online, but hate to pay shipping if I can make a trip somewhere. Are there any preferable stores in Pa or WV?

Thanks for all of the information and great website.

Cheers!

Don

Hello Don, and welcome to SB. Sounds like you're off to a good start on your bourbon journey. There are a few members here from Ohio. I'm sure they'll be chiming in soon. Keep checking the threads here, and post when you can. This is a great site with a lot of good information, and good people that will share a lot of that information. The gazebo is our chatroom. Official chats are Thursday and Sunday nights, but people can show up whenever. Hope to hear more from you. Cheers! Joe

Hello Don and welcome.

I'm also a novice, mostly a lurker, and I do live in Ohio. Mansfield, OH - I don't have any PA or WV recommendations. I have made a few trips to KY since I started on my bourbon quest - several for the express purpose of buying bourbon, across the river at the Party Source in Bellvue or Covington. It's been worth the trip, every time.

Hi. What part of Ohio?

Binnys is a good source. If you live close to someone you can buy cases and save on shipping.

Welcome, Don. I think you and (Road)Trippah need to make a road trip. :D

Welcome Don. I too am from NE Ohio. Have made numerous trips to Pa. but not much there anymore. Best bet is either drive to Ky. or order from Binnys or Shoppers Vineyard in NJ!

Ditto on what the others have said if you're looking for some Van Winkle action. Have you tried the Four Roses Single barrel or Small Batch bottlings yet? They just became available here in Ohio in July and while very different in nature, are both enjoyable pours.

You really can't have too many Buckeyes. Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I'll have to checkout the shoppers vineyard site. I didn't realize there are other websites that shipped to ohio.

I live just south of Akron, not too far from cleveland.

I've read many good reviews of Four Roses, and will try to pick up a bottle on my next trip out. Is there a preference on Single Barrell or Small Batch? I'm thinking I should try both just to be sure

My Father moved to TN a couple of years ago, so I will be passing through KY more often. I guess I should get started on my shopping list (and saving$) so I'm prepared for the next road trip. (might be seeing more of dad these days :drinking:)

Thanks again for the warm welcome, and I hope to chat with all of you sometime in the gazebo.

Cheers,

Don

Go with both of the FR (although I'm partial to the FRSmB).
