View Full Version : A.H. Hirsch 16 y/o, $39.99 at Sam's

07-18-2003, 12:56
Don't believe it? Click here (http://www.samswine.com/searches/SpiritSearchResults.asp?USearch=hirsch).

My recent Van Winkle extravagances notwithstanding, I couldn't resist ordering four bottles.

BTW, I was notified by email because I'm on their distribtion list. The message said that the special price expires August 1, 2003.

While checking that my link is working, I noticed that Sam's does not list a case price. I wonder whether they will limit the quantity sold to each customer.

Yours truly,
Dave Morefield

They are gone already... They only had 10 bottles but they are taking orders for when they get more delivered. I am not sure if they will still be offered at tht price though. I've still got quite a few bunkered away, but my name is definately in for more at that price! Thanks Dave.

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGHH!!! Virginia does not allow shipped spirits!

The Binny's email offers pre-sell, only. They make it sound as though this is a final liquidation sale. Buy it now, or forget it forever.

Now I'm trying to get confirmation of my Sam's order, while wishing I hadn't deleted their email after I placed the order. I wonder whether one should get in line at both stores.

Yours truly,
Dave Morefield

Supposedly this IS the last of the Hirsch 16 year to be bottled. And Binny's said that they have already had about 30 orders since this morning (Sams says the same thing!). On their site it is listed as 80 proof but I called and it is a mistake, it will be 91.6 proof as always. By the time others go there it may be fixed to read the correct proof. Get this bourbon while you can, you will not regret it!

07-18-2003, 23:41
Thanks for the tip. I ordered 3 bottles from Binnys.

I would move. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/hot.gif

I just saw on the news the locals are having a conniption because they're planning a new ABC store. Unbelievable!

07-21-2003, 14:52
Hey there! Just got back from a vacation with the family to Wisconsin. Did my best to eat all the cheese curds and drink all locally brewed beer in the state.

I come back and what do I see but this deal on the Hirsch... the order is in!

07-21-2003, 22:46
I noticed that Sam's also carries Buffalo Trace. This is a good thing to know!

07-22-2003, 05:41
They are currently selling a Single Barrel bottling of BT for $20. I recently got one, but haven't had the opportunity to check it out. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Anyway, I'm sure when I do, it will be mighty fine! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For anyone sitting on the sidelines, thinking about when they might order a bottle (or case...) of the 16 YO Hirsch, be aware that a few more people (besides us) now are aware of this news. Subscribers to Whiskynotes from Malt Advocate were just advised today that Sam's and Binny's have this great sale going on.

Hats off to Dave who broke the news here first, way to go Dave! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif

It is also noted that this is the last shipment of the remaining stocks of Hirsch to retailers.

07-29-2003, 23:16
I broke down and finally oredered myself a bottle tonight! (along with some OF 100 so I didnt feel like I totally got f&#@ed on shipping). Hopefully there is still some left to send me.

07-31-2003, 22:42
Me too. I mean 2. Also, just got today's note about the "sale" on the Hirsch 20yo for only $199...

08-07-2003, 14:00
I got this in an email from Sams today. I guess all shipments, even those from Binny's, will be delayed as well.

There has been a slight delay in shipment of the A.H. Hirsch 16 year old Bourbon. The labels were not affixed properly and, by law, had to be re-done. The A.H. Hirsch 16yr. should be here at Sam's ready to pick-up/ship in September.
They have extended the pre-offer pricing for a short period longer. If you would like to take this opportunity to order more please do so now. As soon as this stock is gone it will no longer be obtainable.

08-07-2003, 15:27
I teased Sean, replying that there was no delay in charging my credit card!

08-07-2003, 15:38
Good thing we have enough that we can sustain ourselves with until then... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/drinking.gif

I wonder if anyone is distilling anything now that will become the hirsch of 15-20years from now...

08-07-2003, 15:40
No crap haha. I saw they charged my card the near $500 right after the order! No matter, but I was shocked they still did that... I've got a case on order at Binny's as well, but they did not charge before hand.

08-07-2003, 18:16
I wonder if anyone is distilling anything now that will become the hirsch of 15-20years from now...

If Pot -Still is the only criteria there is only one place to look. There will be plenty to look forward to in the next 15- 20 years otherwise. If getting the last of a defunct distilleries' product is what you hope for , I don't see there being any fewer players than present, But you never know , Those 75 or so distillers in Nelson county a hundred years ago probably didn't realize they'd soon be kissing their asses goodbye in a few years! I don't doubt that Hirsch is good, I think the fact that it is to be no more after it is gone is a big driving force of at least the price going thru the roof. I will probably sell my one bottle of 20 at some point. I can turn a tidy profit and live without ever drinking it , there's always Stagg! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif

09-08-2003, 13:56
It's been another month and that bourbon has still not arrived!

09-08-2003, 14:10
I have been recently thinking the same thing Cliff. I hope they still keep with their promise of it at that price, especially after billing me a month ago... I'd like to know from them what happened? They made posts here, sent out numerous emails about it and their 'sale price' of $199 for the 20, and offers for other liquors but have sent out nothing recently keeping us aprised of the situation. Having billed us already, I'd like updates...

09-08-2003, 17:52
It appears as though they're still selling the stuff. I placed an order last week for 4 bottles and received confirmation of same today! I was told they would hopefully be shipping some time in Sept.

09-09-2003, 06:52
I received a report that it is on the floor at the store, for $39.95.

09-09-2003, 07:21

09-09-2003, 07:42
Now to just wait for the email that they are shipping it. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I do hope they let us know when it is shipped... I'd hate for it to show up when I'm in KY and not have made plans for it to be dropped off somewhere else.

09-09-2003, 09:26
I just spoke with Sean Hartig, and he informed me that Sam's has not yet received their shipment, but that they expect to have it towards the end of Sept. He stated that he would be sending out an e-mail to all that have placed orders regarding arrival date.

09-09-2003, 11:54
I had my order in at Binny's, and they e mailed me a few days ago that they have not gotten the hirsch either, and the original shipping date of sept 1 was now going to be delayed by about three weeks. there website still has it on sale at 39.99,even though the text in the ad says that the sale price has expired.

09-10-2003, 11:28
Then the guy who told me he bought some there a couple days ago is lying.

09-10-2003, 11:46
Maybe they made the price on their existing floor stock $39.99 but have not received the new shipment yet... Just a thought.

09-10-2003, 11:55
I've just emailed Sean and will report back soon.

[EDIT: Sean has replied and I have made a new post]

09-10-2003, 12:20
Direct from Sean at Sam's

"If you could kindly report back (I forgot my password) I am going to send every one whom purchased an e-mail but until that happens I would be grateful if you could post the following:

"The final barrels of AH HIRSCH are being bottled last and this week. They are hand bottled so this process takes some time. It is not here in the store on the shelf and when it does get here the price will go up to normal retail price which is why people are paying upfront
A. To lock in the price
B. To guarantee bottles or cases of this incredible spirit.
I can't make the people from AH Hirsch work any faster than they are already doing so. but I can assure you as soon as the bourbon arrives I will contact everyone. I apologize for the delay but unfortunately it is out of my hands. Its worth the wait.

There you have it folks. Worth the wait!

09-10-2003, 12:26
Thank You for the update Dave, that clears everything up. I just wrote Binny's since I did not receive any emails from them and I think some others have. I mainly did it to confirm that they do in fact have my order placed there as well. Hirsch 16 for $39.99 is definately worth the wait!

09-10-2003, 14:36
I received an email today from Brett Pontoni at Binny's and here is what he had to say:

<font color="brown">Mark,
Walter forwarded me your inquiry about the status of the A.H. Hirsch 16yr Old. I want to assure you that we do have your order (for one case), in fact it was the first placed through the website after we announced the pre-buy.

The whiskey has been stored for a number of years at Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, KY. They remodeled their "hand-bottling" line this summer, and the project ran over by more than a month. The Hirsch was originally scheduled to run through that line at the beginning of August. It is now scheduled for September 15th. We expect our cases to ship to Chicago on or soon after the 21st. This information has been confirmed by both the production supervisor at the distillery and by the importer who owns Hirsch's U.S. rights. As soon as we receive the goods, we will be immediately fulfilling all of our pre-buy. After the dust settles on that, the remainder of what we purchased will go into normal stock.

I hope this hasn't caused any inconvenience or undue worry. We didn't do a blanket explanation on the delay, instead we address it individually as we are asked. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me directly.

So there is the explanation from Binny's as well in case anyone else has order's placed there. I've got an order for a case from each place! There is no denying that Hirsch 16 is wonderful whiskey and will be missed once it's gone. Bunker away!

09-10-2003, 16:57
So New York allows direct shipping now?

09-10-2003, 17:05
I've always been ordering stuff from online vendor's Tommy... At least in the past 3 years since I've gotten into bourbon.

09-11-2003, 08:43
I live 20 minutes from Buffalo Trace. The bourbon will be bottle there, put in cases to Chicago, then shipped to my family in NY, because Sam's doesn't ship to KY, and then delivered by a relative at Holiday time. Bureaucracy!!! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

09-11-2003, 08:59
That is just plain crazy, on so many flippin' levels... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/hot.gif

http://www.hondavision.com/forum/images/smilies/ranton.gif It's crap like that that pisses me off quite frankly... Our government should be worried about so many other things and instead they have these lame laws about where the shipment of alcohol can take place. Gimme a break already people, it's 2003!

09-11-2003, 15:14
So this Hirsch deal is only at Sam's and Binny's? Isn't Liquor Outlet in on it?

09-23-2003, 19:00
During the tour at Buffalo Trace, we slipped off to tour the entire distillery. The best part was seeing the 8 bottling lines that they had. I was very entertained. It was nice for someone else giving the tour and me being the guest. I had a great time. Thank you, Ken Webber I owe ya one http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

All the workers on the floor were so friendly. We weaved in and out of every line. I think that Wanda must have told everyone there that I was a line mechanic.

The man with me, Doug Fox, is my supervisor. He used to work for Buffalo Trace. So we got a really good inside tour.

I took this picture. I nearly forgot all about it. I knew when I saw the bottling in progress that a lot of you have been waiting for this one. Hirsch 16 year, will be on it's way very soon. I told the girl that I knew a lot of folks who were waiting for that very bottle.

09-23-2003, 19:03
Haha, great photo Bettye Jo! Look, look, there's my bottles! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thanks for at least showing us waiting that they are in fact being bottled as we speak.

09-24-2003, 09:45
Bettye Jo, you just made my day. Weee heeee, can't wait. Thanks!!

09-24-2003, 09:48
Anybody else get nervous about that one bottle near the edge of the table? http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/falling.gif

09-24-2003, 10:17
Yeah, if they turned around to grab another bottle off the line or something it'd be within my reaching distance! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif

10-07-2003, 06:05
I just got an email from Binny's that my case there has shipped. So they are beginning to fulfill their orders.

Sams also sent me an email about my case saying it is now in. BUT they want me to call some guy Miguel Padilla to arrange shipping. Weird as I always have all my stuff from there shiped and they know where to send it. Anyways, it's all in now guys to expect to be sipping on some REAL FINE bourbon anyday now! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif

10-07-2003, 06:16
That's the news we've been waiting for Mark! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif Any sense of whether Sam's and/or Binny's sold out their allotments?

10-07-2003, 06:24
I 'think' they still have more available because after apeaking with them they kept saying how now it will be selling at regular price again. I just take that to mean that yep, they still have more for sale. What I know is all of us who got in on any amount of bottles at $40 really got a great deal on a phenominal bournon! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif

10-07-2003, 17:53
If they still have it in stock, it's just $41.99 according to their website a few minutes ago.

10-07-2003, 18:09
Hirsch 16 is a very good $42 bottle of bourbon! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/yum.gif

It was a bourbon worth buying at $62 for the last several years. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Sam's priced this latest, and last, bottling at $41.99 after delivery from the BT cat &amp; dog line; Binny's moved it up to $49.99. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

10-09-2003, 10:22
My case just arrived from Binny's and I've got to say they cheaped out a bit on the bottling this time. The label is the same as the last run of 16 YO, but they didn't do the gold wax on top this time. It's just a foil top with stars imprinted ontop.

I know, no big deal the bourbon is what matters and I agree, but still I noticed this immediately after opening the box. For me the wax just added that extra something special to such a special bourbon.

10-09-2003, 10:53
Have you tasted it, man?

10-09-2003, 11:18
This particular new bottling? Nope. The old Hirsch 16 with the wax, Yep many a time. I am hoping it is as good as the old batch even after being stored this long... I've got too many other bottles I planned on opening this weekend while at a friends house to open yet another bottle right now haha. I'm sure someone will try this batch soon enough though.

10-09-2003, 13:40
I would ask any who have tasted it to consider if it has evolved in flavour from the first bottling of some years ago. The whiskey has been stored in a manner to retard further aging (I believe in stainless steel tanks), but as some years have passed, one would think the taste may continue to improve. Maybe it tastes now like the 20 year old did on its release, without the 20's price. That would be nice, considering too the discount these curent bottles were sold at.

10-13-2003, 13:58
YAY I finally got my grubby little hands on the bottle of Hirch 16 I ordered months and months ago!!

Yippee for ME!
