It has been a while since I have posted. Can you believe I let work and family life get in the way of SB. The nerve.

Any who, I am heading down to Charleston, SC in a couple of weeks. I have searched the web and SB, and it looks like there are some good places to enjoy whiskey in Charleston. If I were willing to shell out some cash it appears Husk is the place to go for any whiskey my heart desires. Although I don’t think I want to pay $50 for a pour of something no matter how evasive it is to find on the shelves. Has anyone visited Boone’s Bar? It also got good reviews for whiskey, although their websites list doesn't look all that impressive. It appears that some of the city bars put together a “bourbon tour” with certain bars to hit to try different bourbons. Although, from their list it appears I could taste most of those in my basement.

So I thought I would tap the great minds here to see if there are any suggested spots to check out.
Also, since I live in a Ohio, a state known for liquor control, I was wondering if SC is any better? Or WV or Virginia for that matter, since I will be passing through those on the drive. Any good liquor stores SB or bourbon friendly in Charleston or along the I-77 corridor between OH and SC?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Husk certainly has the bourbon if you are willing to fork over the money. If you are interested in actually dining at Husk, better make your reservation now rather than waiting until you get there. Husk is incredibly busy. I spent Christmas week in Charleston, and although I don't remember specific names, lots and lots of neat bars and restaurants in the historic section. We stayed at the French Quarter Inn, which I highly recommend. I did visit one liquor store located in the historic district near Broad Street, but it was small and had very little in the way of quality bourbons. Charleston is a neat place, enjoy your visit!

I just returned from my trip to SC, and am sad to say that I did not discover any hidden Bourbon Meccas. Most pubs/restaurants had the usual. I did see some bottles at a couple liquor stores that were new to me. However, some research on SB I found that they were not worth the money. I did have one store clerk try hard to sell me a bottle of Angel Envy at +$50. I am happy to say I took along a bottle of EC 12yr (my first taste), and I was very pleased. This will likely become one of my regular pours. I also enjoyed some FR 1B and Ritt while relaxing.

We were just in Charleston on Derby weekend and if you ever go back, I have to recommend the bar at Husk. Yes it is a bit pricey but they have private barrels of Knob Creek and a couple others. We were rushed for time so we only had 1 drink. Decided on the barrel aged Manhattan and it is the best cocktail I have ever tasted ($16 though). So good that I decided to order my own barrel and re-create the drink at home. The Gin Joint also had a pretty good bourbon selection.

Hey, just to revive an old topic there is a bar on King St. called The Belmont. It's on upper king st. Remindes me of an old speak easy where the bartenders are dressed up in old fashon clothes and are hand pressing all of the drinks. They are mainly a Bourbon/Scotch bar and is definatly a place to check out if you are in town!

There is also another resturant that is a little out of town called The Rutledge Cab Co. They have a large bar/bourbon selecton as well. Great enviorment and good food.
