Sorry guys, just had to brag. I found 5 bottles of Hirsch 20yo at the Richmond Road Liquor Barn yesterday for $85.99 each. Of course I bought them all, and before you ask, they are already destined for a few lucky board members. And myself of course http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. This has to be the deal of the century. I don't know how they sold them for so little, when they are going for over $200 in some places.

Jeff, I'd certainly brag! Really great prices. But why isn't the fifth bottle in the photo? Camera shy? http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Ed

Thanks Ed. That fifth bottle is currently undergoing some indepth, hands-on quality control testing to ensure the quality of those other bottles http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif (I already opened it)

That kind of peeves me. I've had a special order for a bottle of Hirsch 20 yr at the Liquor Barn on Harrordburg Road for about 2 months wanting them to find me a bottle. Plus I go in there about twice a week. Seems like they would have a working relation between two stores in the same city. That makes me think that they just take those special order forms and throw them in the garbage. Good customer service for someone thats probably bought 1500 worth of goods from them in the last couple months! ohh well, I guess you just have to be lucky sometimes. Congrats on the good find!

I just bought a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve, 20 year, 90.4 proof. Any similarity to the 20 year Hirsch?

Though the Pappy Van Winkle 20 YO is a great bourbon, it is still different than the Hirsch 20 in my opinion. The Hirsch 16 and 20 YO expressions are such truly unique bourbons, I cannot think of much to compare them to. They will both be missed.

I have three Hirsch 16yo bottles for which I paid only about 20 percent less than you did for the 20yo. Wow! I've never even seen a (live) bottle of the 20. I'm envious. How about a trade of a bottle? Nah, I didn't think so.

Well, it's no match for your lowball Hirsch bottles, but had my own mini-discoveries tonight. Went to one of the local liquor stores to buy a bottle each of Eagle Rare 17 and Sazerac Rye, and discovered at the back of their respective shelves a fifth and half-pint of the old 90-proof, 7yo Jim Beam Black Label, and three half-pints (with old tax seals) of AAA 10yo -- as far as I can tell, the latter is the only left remaining in town; everything else is 10 Star. To top it all off, I got a courtesy discount.

http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif, Isn't that the best? When you know you have found a rare find/finds and then they give you a 'cash' discount or courtesy discount! It just makes a great experience all the better. Congrats http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif

Jimbo:
The Hirsch & Pappy 20-year are about as different as you can get.
The Hirsch bourbon was distilled by Michter's Distillery in PA in 1974. It was made with Carn, Rye & malted barley in the mashbil.
Pappy is KY bourbon. It has wheat instead of rye in it's mashbil.
