Many years ago, Makers Mark produced a Gold Wax bottle that contained a different (better)bourbon that that of the Red Wax bottle. They have since ceased to produce different bourbons. Does anyone know what the difference was between the Gold and Red Wax versions long ago? http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

The difference is proof. The gold wax limited edition Makers was 100 proof. It may still be available in Tokyo or Osaka liquor shops, but has been discontinued there as well. Try ebay.
There's also a black wax 95-proof export / duty free shop edition that tastes better than the standard Makers.
Cheers,

The gold bottle was 101 proof. There is one 1983 vintage bottle also whith 95 proof. I got the last one at home, but I have not open it jet.The 101 have not bean made for 8-9 years and the 1983 is the only vintage from this distillery to my nolige.

You can actually get it from this German web shop (http://www.spirituosen-superbillig.de/) . Itīll cost you plenty, though, and thatīs without p&p costs included.
The gold seal is both extremely good and also highly individual. If forced to choose, Iīd opt for the black seal, though.
