I just stopped by my local Liquor Barn (on Hurstborne Parkway in lew-uh-vul) to see if anything new had dropped in, there on the top shelf was 2 bottles of E/R 101. I got one, if you hurry, you can get the last one. Under $18....

Can anyone shed light on the various 750 mL bottlings of ER 10 year that I've seen? To my count there are:

1. current 80 bottle w/ screenprint
2. older 101 bottle w/ label, similar dimensions as #1
3. older 101 bottle w/ label, squatty compared to #1

I found some of the #2 in Dallas at "Spirits" near Fair Park, but none yet of the #3, which leads me to believe that this bottling is somewhat older. Can anybody confirm?

BTW, this is my first post on the forum! Been lurking for a few months and finally signed up last week. Thanks, -Jeff

Your #1 is actually 90 proof and a single-barrel bottling -- soon to be the only ER in general circulaton.
I've never seen your #2, so agree it must be older.
The third you mention is the one that's still available here and there, and is the final rendition of the 10yo, 101 proof, already discontinued.

And I bought three bottles of it today. I hadn't seen any for a long while. Last week I asked a clerk about it and he said there would be some in the next day. I checked but there was none. I went back today and cleared the shelf. I saw one back of the register with a receipt on it so I must not be the only fancier of this fine bourbon in Sapporo. I hope that the distributor that supplies that store has more in the warehouse.

I wonder how the older 101 compares to the newer standard SB? i have a bottle of SB thats still in San Diego unfortunately because i really enjoyed its bright, banana-ish flavor.
Ive seen a bottle of 101 at a store in Tokyo every week ive visited it. It was about 25 bucks so would you say its worth it? even better then the SB?

Whoops, looks like my question was answered in a parallel thread "Eagle Rare stock pre-BT". The bottle in question is the NO LA 101 1L.

So, in my original question I managed to misstate both the proof and the volume. However, I was (and am) certain that the bottle is glass and that it contained some kind of brown liquid http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clever.gif

Hi lakegz,
On a different thread I said that the SB 10 year old is better by a hair. I don't really know the SB very well as I have only had the one bottle and it is still a third full. Nor I have been to that bottle recently. The 101 is better in one respect, it is higher proof than the SB which is 90 proof, if memory serves. I prefer my bourbon to be at least 100 proof. The price is much better on the 101, at least here. The SB is more than ten dollars more a bottle, but the whiskey in the bottle isn't ten dollars better. Please remember that I am only talking about one bottle of a single barrel bourbon and that SBs vary a good deal, at least in my experience. Maybe the bottle I got was just so-so by Eagle Rare SB 10 standards and I am missing out on some stellar whiskey. I do know that Eagle Rare 101ten year old is top shelf bourbon, by my standards. I will be sad when the day comes that it no longer appears on the shelves anywhere near me. Even sadder when I finish the last bunkered bottle. But there is plenty of excellent bourbon around so I won't weep too long.
