Well, first time in KY since joining this list and at the local store there is tons of VOB, more than any other bourbon by far. But it is in three different proofs, 80, 86 and 100. Prices scale up as well. All are six years old. The 86 is good stuff no doubt. I bought a half pint of it and am tasting it now. Don't need to add water to this... so I guess that cancels the 80 out right? but the eighty is cheaper.

But I am curious if you were choosing, which would you choose and why and does it matter?

...it is in three different proofs, 80, 86 and 100...

There's also a 90 proof, which is the best-seller in the local market. Also, recent rumor has it the remaining life of the 100/BIB may be short.

well, here there is no BIB I don't think.... its just three proofs of the six year old.... maybe the 100 is bib... its in the twelve dollar range...

No ninety in this, but there is a ninety in the AAA

I will say this 86 is awesome... I guess the 100 would be the same but stronger?

Tim,

Does the rumor about the demise of VOB BIB say whether that bourbon will go to some other bottling?

I ask only becaue I still haven't gotten my s----h-drinking son to cross the river on my behalf during one of his many business trips to Cincy. If I'm going to cross VOB BIB off my target list, I wonder whether to replace it with something else.

Yours truly,
Dave Morefield

They are axing the Colonel Lee as well which was a BIB 100 proofer. Damn, maybe the idea of shipping water all over the country is catching on..........

90 is all I've seen in GA, at $9. I'd try the BIB, but probably wouldn't bother with below 90, Then again, at such a low price, why not?

It does indeed appear the 100p VOB is on it's last legs. I have only had the 90p, living in CO; I brought that back from a trip to Louisville. For the $ I thought it was very good.

I've always gotten the 100-proof. Maybe it's a little more expensive, but it's still a bargain.

I bought the AAA ten year and also one 750 of the 86 proof VOB. Well back home in KS I cracked the AAA and don't appreciate the BITE. You know the next time I go to KY, I'll buy a couple half gallons of the 100 proof because the Bartons is all I ever wanted the Beam to be. (and its way cheaper)

Thanks for the info on this thread - I've put a request in to my KY contact and am hoping that VOB BIB can still be found. If not, I'll settle for 90/86 proof.

I recently got some VOB 100 since who knows if this will remain in the portfolio (I hope it will). Although sometimes Barton doesn't strike the right note with me this particular bottle was great: maple rich, supple on the palate with all the flavors in the right place. Vigorous, yes, but that is the house style. A fine product.

I don't buy any VOB, because the only one I can get is 80-proof and I simply prefer higher proof whiskeys. 90-proof is generally my minimum, though I will occasionally buy 86-proof OGD (I cannot get the 100 or 114 in my state).
