View Full Version : Urgent Help Needed: Canadian Whiskey

I am going out of town this coming weekend (8/11) to visit a good friend. I'm looking for suggestion for a good whiskey to take to him. He is a big fan of Crown Royale. I've tried in the past, without success (too sweet), to interest him in some top shelf bourbons. Does anyone have suggestions for a rye or other high-end pour that would be a good transition from his usual Crown?

There is the higher-end Crown Royals - Limited Edition and Special Reserve come to mind. Also another limited bottling I saw in Malt Advocate magazine with whisky coming from the old Waterloo plant (I didn't know there was a distillery in Waterloo).

As for transitional drams, I'd go with Wiser's 18yr cdn whisky (very oaky for cdn whisky) or Makers Mark as a light bourbon.

If you want to chance sticking with Crown Royal, go with the Crown Royal Limited. It can be purchased in Canada for about $25-$35 a bottle. If you are looking for something tasty yet light and smooth finishing, the Centennial 10yr Limited Edition is your match. It runs at about $22-$29 per bottle
Alternatively, if you are looking for something that is just the right mix of malt and sweet, but not overpowering, try the Century Reserve 13yr, my personal favorite!

That's my suggestions on Rye Whisky...
