nor02lei
Yesterday I did have OFBB fall 90-03 before dinner. Not bad but by no means my least liked from this series. After dinner I did have a couple of glasses of ORVW 15 together with soft almond cake and black strong coffee. A mind-blowing combination.Leif
ILLfarmboy
WT RB (batch No WT-01-99)I just opened this one tonight. Very rich and full. The last bottle I had was a WT-03RB I don't recall it as being as rich. It's probably just me though.

Luna56
Three fingers of ER10. Heading out of state tomorrow, running around getting ready to go, but I always take a few minutes to appreciate a good pour even in busy times. Suffering with yet another cold (I've been getting my ass kicked this winter for some reason) but some good whiskey makes it all bearable.Cheers! Luna56
Had to try another two fingers of the ER10. The last pour sat in the glass for awhile and the changes were sublime. The "mustiness" (which I dig about ER) sublimated itself and the body and flavor intensity increased in a big way over the hour or so I drank it. ER10 continues to surprise and beguile me. The bottles I'm getting these days are, to use an over the top oxymoron (the moron being me) "astonishingly subtle." Hmm...I haven't found a whiskey in its price bracket that has that kind of character and personality. Brad, a rye is definitely in my future, I'm getting more and more curious about rye. In NH our selection is scant but I may be able to find a Baby Saz nearby. In the meantime, this bottle of ER is really doin' it for me. Just excellent.Cheers! In NH our selection is scant but I may be able to find a Baby Saz nearby. What NH lacks in selection it compensates for in price, IMHO. There's Saz 6yo rye in a bunch of the state liquor stores -- shoot me a PM with your location and I'll point you to one.

gothbat
I picked up a 200ml bottle of the current OGD BIB today. I recently opened a ND bottle and really liked it which was a surprise because all of the other times I've had OGD I didn't care much for it so I thought a side by side was in order. Current (NAS, DSP-KY-230)--------------------------A - Very light in color, yellowish, almost reminds me of Mellow Corn. faint, thin legs, oddly spacedN - some rye spice, perhaps it's just the power of suggestion but I can smell oily corn more than anythingT - hot, fiery actually, cinnamon flavored cornF - the heat and corn continue and roll down the back of the throat1987 ND (Aged 8 years, bottled Fall 1987, DSP-KY-14)----------------------------------------------------A - Dark brown with very few and faint legsN - sweet maple syrup; very inviting and not hot at allT - there's some rye spice but very little, chocolate, sweet F - now there's the rye spice and the heat, reminds me of straight rye more than bourbon now, long, moderately hot finishConclusion----------I'll take the old one over the current any day, it's very different than the current and has the nose and taste of a more expensive premium bottle imo. At $35 or so for a handle this was a bargain but the current one really reflects it's price range! The ND carries an 8 year age statement however the current does not, by it's appearance alone, nevermind the taste, you can logically assume that the current is much younger. I was confused since they had the green label and the old label, took me a minute to figure out they were the same, just new packaging. It's nice but I may like Saz. Jr better. I think I want a beer backer with the RR.

dean_martin
Russell's Reserve 90 prf.I started with one neat, then for the next one I poured it over cracked ice, I like this bourbon better that way.I think someone in another thread wrote that J. Russell keeps his RR in the freezer (or maybe I read that at the WT website). I haven't tried it in the freezer, but I usually have a pour of this one between VW Lot B and either KC or EC 12. The RR 90 has become one of my favorites. I opened my first bottle the same night as I opened a KC. My initial impression was that the RR wasn't as bold as the KC. The RR didn't stand out at first but after a couple of days it seemed that all of the flavors started coming through. It went from bland to tasty and "mellow". Now I prefer the RR to KC in a side-by-side. (KC is still my fave follow-up to RR.) I've read that the earlier versions (101) get props around here. I guess I found it too late for the higher proof. p_elliott
It's WTRB he keeps in the freezer but I've read else where that the colder bourbon the more reduced the flavor.

funknik
Trying something for the first time tonight. VSOF BHC. JoeJoe -- how did you like it? That's one of my favorite pours....my pick over the OCPR & Centennial.Tonight I'm downing some Old Crow 10/86 from that 1968 chess set.....I think I'm on a mission to finish it -- it's going down so easy...very delicious -- the only thing I can even remotely liken it to that I've had is the current Rare Breed (WT03RB) with it's sweet, herbal thing. Still the Crow has a butterscotch character that I've never encountered before....yummy.
